I got in quick and applied.

Forget the money, it would be cool to see me in the ads during the footy telecast

I got the email twice, must've been one from the Sydney office and one from the Melb office, and in the same mail was one saying they had enough people already.
Not that I would have gone, I'll be at the game.

I remember the last time we got called to do this, spent about 6 hours at Colonial Stadium and none of the footage ever made it to TV.

I procrastinated thinking that I didn't want to miss the game on TV and that Sunday is forcast to be cold and wet. Then I thought that if it is a crap game and we lose I will regret not going ie if I go we will win and if I don't we will lose. So for the good of the team I had better go. Unfortunately by the time I rang - about 3pm - they were full. So I hope I haven't put a hex on them.

I got the email first thing and if I called up I would have been in no problems but I choose not to miss the Roos V Swans game on TV instead. Call me loyal / stupid whatever - but I just can't miss my swannies play a game.

I'd go, but only if I be seen using my big flag in the ad. The AFL has issued us with a notice that if we even dare wave our big flags outside of Sydney we'll lose the privelidge to wave them at the SCG and Telstra Stadium. So they are banned on Sunday, which is going to make us look rediculously piddly in comparison with North's squad. I like to wave the big flags where I can, as then people will know that there are fans from SYDNEY who have travelled to support their side.

Needless to say I'm mortified by this attitude from the game's governing body. And have been grumpy for days over it. I thought they'd be at least understanding to cultivating things up here. But not under "thou shalt do what I say or else Demotriou." We can't wave the big flags in Melbourne or Brisbane, point proven, end of story. Yet grounds like Adelaide and Canberra have no problem with them, yet we still have them banned, complete with a threat verging on blackmail. Gee thanks Andrew, I kinda can't make it for the ad mate. But have fun shooting it, ok!

It would be nice to get some support from those in the office over this (Myles, WHERE ARE YOU?!!!), as people like myself and Beaussie feel that the big flags are something that is uniqueyand ideosyncratically "Sydney" and if allowed into ground, should be supported. But events over the last couple of days have shown that this won't happen. So we should give up trying to fight for it.

I hate to sound morose about things all the time. But sadly these are the cards we seem to be dealt with.

What was the reason for instructing you not to use the big flags?

                    Or in Adelaide, or Perth.

Part of me doesn't want to let them win, but I've been told that when the AFL are watching, it is best to to the line, even if I'm tearing my hair out with dispair and anger.

And to make matters worse, we have a Bigfooty poster and now-member of the Brisbane Lions Football Club to thank for all of this.

Needless to say I'm very very upset about it. And appauled that people's sense of one-upmanship can be taken to such extremes.

As I said, it would be nice to get some support from the club over this. But most of them wouldn't even know who we were in any case. But I'll at least see what I can do so that we can at least attempt to get them in in South Australia, Canberra and maybe even Perth.

I doubt that will happen unless you convey some idea as to the REASON the AFL gave on why they won't permit the big flags.

Could it be that they simply block the view for too long and a few folk have had a bleat about it for a while?

Or is it one of those insurance furphies that get trotted out all too often. Like, when the SCG trust wouldn't allow the kick-to-kick for all those years. I always presumed that they harboured the fear that someone would sue if they fell and did a hip flexor. My solution to that would have been that by going onto the ground, you signed away any rights to sue ... fullstop.

And ... if you slipped over and sued, you were a worthless 2-bit sc*mbag IMO anyway.

The reason waivers don't work, which would seem ideal is that you can never sign rights away ever.

Come on CTS, the AFL doesn't have to give reasons. The AFL is the AFL and its rules are its rules.

My mentality is that rules may be in place. But it doesn't mean that they are necessarily right. Nor contually specific.

Interestingly several of us agreed that with only small 6 foot flags the singing in the CS was actually heaps better. There were less gaps created by the flags, which were filled with people.

Hmm, there may well be life after big flags after all.

My impression was that the AFL would allow the big flags at the SCG but not at most other grounds.
                              Is this right?
If it is then they are contradicting themselves.
Unless the flags are banned at all grounds in which case I don't see the big deal.

Personally I prefer the look of many medium flags then a couple of big ones, it makes it look like there is more support.

What I was getting at was the reason the AFL didn't want the large flags at the ground.
                              Injuries to the crowd?
                              Blocked vision?
                              Blocking cameras?
What did they say in the correspondance you had with them?
