    Sydney forwards ruled out

In a major blow to the Sydney Swans, forwards Michael O?Loughlin and Nick Davis have been ruled out of the team to play the undefeated Kangaroos at Manuka Oval on Sunday.

O?Loughlin limped off the SCG in the second quarter of Sydney?s round two win against Fremantle with a hamstring twinge.

Coach Paul Roos and the selection committee decided to rest the talented full-forward for the subsequent Geelong victory in the hope he would be fully fit for this weekend.

However, O?Loughlin came off early in Friday?s training session aided by the team doctor and physiotherapist.

?It?s not worth risking Mick so at this stage we are taking the conservative approach,? Roos said after Friday?s training session.

Davis suffered a torn hip flexor muscle just before half-time in Sydney?s two-point loss to Brisbane in round one after kicking four straight.

The 24-year-old was listed to be out for 4-6 weeks but made an impressive return to kicking practice this week and was subsequently selected to play in the national capital.

However, Davis pulled up sore after Wednesday?s training run and took no part in Friday?s hit-out.

?(Injuries at training) have happened in the past to us, so its water off a ducks back,? Roos said.

Luke Ablett and Lewis Roberts-Thomson have been added to the starting 22 with Mark Powell and Aaron Rogers included as emergencies.

Feel bad for Buchanan, considering I thought he had a better game than Ablett, Bevan and perhaps McVeigh last week. I also would love to see Powell back in the starting 22, but the only way I can see it happening atm is through injury, which I am happy for the team to avoid...

Bevan and Ablett, probably. McVeigh probably not though that's just MO.

Last week was the first time we got to see Schneider and Buchanan together in the seniors and, despite the physical similarities, it was pretty clear what the difference was. Both were excellent at their hassling and chasing but Schneider clearly has a few more tricks in his book - his ability to find a sudden spurt of pace, not to mention his long penetrating kicks - are things that Buchanan hasn't shown.

Ironically Schneider's relative lack of fitness probably does Buchanan out of a spot in the team. "Carrying" one small forward pocket is fine, but long term you wouldn't want two in the team. If Schneider were fit enough to play full-time in the midfield then there might be a place for Monty, but I fear that until at least one of them significantly elevates their fitness (which will probably take another year or two) I doubt we'll see them play many times together.

            I hope it's a ploy.

Though I know that is unlikely I still cling to the hope.

Gee, an article saying they are in and then an article saying they are out. It's gonna be a really tough game to win now. Had my hopes up for a while.

At least they'll be back at telstra stadium next week against the Demons.

                Maybe.

I'm taking this news to confirm that Kennelly is fit, at least.

Still, I would have liked this information before I put my tips in. We take footy tipping very seriously where I come from - and the Roos are clear favourites now.

Although I tend to agree in general with the Buchanan/Schneider comments, this would not appear to be the thinking of the football department - otherwise why would they waste a relatively high (30/40) draft pick by re-drafting Buchanan?

                    Doesn't make sense.

I certainly would not have re-drafted him based on what he has shown, but hope that the football dept proves me wrong.
