He's always had talent - everyone knows this.

The issue was that Roos tried to make a CHB out of him - a mistake.

IMO Saddo will now spend the rest of his career sliding up and down the ground (HFF - Wing - HBF) as needed and happily rack up 300 games as one the good average players every team needs.

    End of story.

I doubt he'll make 300 games as a good average player, but he'll get between 200 and 250 games.

You're half right. If he continues to be brushed by the Paul Roos confidence wand he'll rack up 300 games as a Swans essential player, as Roos has always said he could be.

But I'm feeling pretty cocky after suggesting pre-game that Saddo wouldn't have gone on the line in today's Sun-Herald unless he was feeling a lot more confident.

I'm expecting the likes of NMW, TheHood and Robbieando to come back for seconds!

I know that's meant to be a joke Charlie, but given the abuse I copped over this I don't find it really that funny.

Always thought Saddo had talent, and have said so often. Hopefully this is the game for him to regain his confidence.

If he becomes a star CHB then I'll be more than happy to take my servings of humble pie!

My apologies. Certainly no offence intended by it - remember I somehow ended up fighting that same battle. Just a bit of friendly ribbing, is all. Intended purely to highlight the fact that much of the criticism was premature.

Mate - if Warfe stands up and becomes a useful defender once again, or Matty Nicks comes into the side and cements a spot in the forward pocket, I'll probably have to take my humble pie by intravenous methods. I won't complain though.

Yes, that was rather strange and unfortunate.

Anyone who criticised him as finished and couldn't play was premature. Likewise, anyone who suggests he is definitely back is probably premature too. He may simply end up becoming a floater, who fills in on the flanks forward or back.

I'll need to book Gloria Marshalls on Nicks, can't see it happening........

Gee I thought he played a lot at CHB well before Roosey took over. He had a limited season through injury in 2003 and Roos used him in the backline in the first 2 games but has used him as a utility the past 2 games.

Blind Freddy could see that he was not a rock solid backman but Eade could not. Played a great game in his 1st season at CHF but Eade knew better and tried to make a backman out of him.

As a floating forward he can go for his marks and not have to mind a man.

Umm, that seems to be rewriting history, from my recollection Saddo played mostly as a wingman under Eade, and as a third tall defender after Schauble and Dunkley.

It was Roos who wanted to make him a CHB (granted out of some necessity), but I distinctly remember a story about Roos wanting to mold Saddo in his own image. In restrospect it was a mistake IMO.

                              SADDINGTON-GOD'S GIFT TO FOOTBALL!!!

I have been having fun with my recent sarcastic treatment of Saddington. I have been yelling out "SAAAAADDINGTON-GOD'S GIFT TO FOOTBALL!", which has been getting chuckles out of everyone of late.

Everyone knows it is all in fun. Sometimes I think taking a somewhat twisted slant of things helps you enjoy your footy.

He has struggled, and has copped in my view deserved criticism.

But he has reacted, and has bounded back.

I'm really pleased for him. Even if as Sydney resident footballing God, that shouldn't be necessary.
