Jason Saddington - great performance, mate

    Dear Jason,

Yes I've read all the posts here about you over the past few months/years and at times I've thought you weren't fitting into the new team spirit. I apologise for ever doubting you. I thought today would be a tough game and everyone would have to step up for us to have a chance of winning. You certainly did that - at a level that lifted the whole team and your fellow forwards.

You had a blinder - I salute you.

If Magic doesn't play I actually wouldn't mind seeing how Saddo goes at FF... which I know is getting ahead of myself, but I have always wondered about it.

but Roosy wasn't quick enough to listen!

That's the trouble. If the players just spent their time reading RWO instead of wasting time at practice and in team meetings, we'd have a trophy cabinet full of silverware by now. When will they learn?

          damn straight!

though sadly the law of diminishing returns has more to do with most of my predictions than any other science

on the subject of Jason- did anybody else watching the TV coverage notice the dirty look that he got from Barry when he floated in and took a strong overhead mark in a pack just out from the goal square when Barry had positioned himself perfectly for it to drop on his chest?

I was hoping a few more RWOers would add to this. It's about time we apologised to Saddo for the crap that's appeared here in the past.

I have been a big critic of Saddo's for the last season or so but yesterday he showed that can truly play as we all believed/hoped he could.

                A fantastic effort!

Those that didn't bag him don't have to apologize. That was a sweet game he played!

Yep - I've been a real critic so congratulations where its due. To be fair most of the criticism has been about his performance in the back line - and I'm not changing my mind about that!

However - one swallow doth not make a summer - he needs to back it up with consistency - and it would be great to see him do so.

Most of the non-hysterical stuff on Sadds has bemoaned his defensive capabilities. I think we all wanted him to succeed and knew that he just does not have that ?dogged? outlook that defenders need, Dunks exemplified I suppose.

His skills with hand and foot are good and we look to have another ?discovery? in our midst where we wanted him, out of defence.

                      Power to the postings?..

                        Yep, that's pretty spot on.

Loved seeing Saddo up forward. Let's hope he stays there and not tried out down back again.

I still think yesterday will be used as a stepping stone to get his confidence up so he can slowly be moved back into the defense, since we are well and truely blessed with forwards at the moment, but not so much in our defense (although it is holding up very well at the moment, especially with Heath doing so well).

I believe he is still required as a defender for the team, but for the time being he will be rotated around the place wherever Roos thinks he is best suited. Once that confidence is up, there is no reason he can not be the third tall defender, allowing the likes of C.Bolton to roam free into the midfield.

Having said that, though, Saddo is a perfect replacement for as long as Magic is out, which could still be a while if he damaged his hammies again at training last week.

Well I don't know about that. The person who might have apologised was big Saddo himself...and he did so in the press. ie... he apologised for playing so poorly and endeavoured to work himself through it. Those of us who suggested that his poor form might be turned around with the help of a quick run in the 2's, have nothing to apologise for.
