As usual the stats only tell half the story - if you believe that lot then the way to conquer Brisbane is to let them beat you in clearances! Just as important is what is done when we have or don't have the ball (harass, chase, minimise clangers, break the lines etc etc). We did that very well last year, thus the high efficiency in goals per forward fifty entrance and good defensive record. We have shown that when we are "on" we are just as good this year except the goalkicking accuracy is down. But point taken - if we win clearances as well, Grannie bound.

Of course. Same thing with possessions too.

Yep!!
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Originally posted by Go Swannies This is a serious question. I keep hearing that our midfield is weak but I just can't see where. Can someone tell me, please? Yes we do handball too much to find a free player but we seem to have the skills to do it (even in the wet now, Collingwood). We have brilliant power out of defence and we have turned the midfield into a quagmire when other teams are in attack. So where does it let us down? And which teams have a better midfield? What specific players?
Put simple we do not have a fat arsed ball winner. Maybe they are a bit unfashionable, but we do not have an old-fashioned strong bodied inside mide fielder who is strong inside packs.
A player to think of would be Bell, Haselby, Mitchell, Lickyaear, J Johnson, S West that 'type'. Bolton/ Fosdike/ Kirk all have quite skinny legs, and aren't very strong on the ground. Not questioning their attack on the footy. This gets tested later in the year, particularly in the wet.
Hawthorn, C/wood and Freo seem ta have it over us a bit there.
Of course Brisbane.....
You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler
I just feel that no-one out accelerates this guy. Jared may have won the GF sprint but he wound up to top speed by the end of the 100m. Judd takes less than 10 steps to reach top speed. F**n awesome.
And I reckon our biggest test in the first half of the year will be the Saints. They are positively feral and on fire right now. And hungry.
Good men do good deeds. Evil men do evil deeds. But it takes religion for a good man to do evil deeds.
Totally agree. He is up there with Pavlich as my favourite player that doesn't run around in a Swans uniform. He is just class, class, class. I would happily trade Matthew Nicks and Rowan Warfe over to the west for Judd and Pavlich.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I have been saying the same thing for a while.
We are lacking that strong bodied midfielder ala Buckley, Voss, Bell, Roo etc.
Apart from this, our midfield is great. We don't have stars just lots of good players to rotate through. Bolton, Williams, Kirk, Fosdike, Mathews, Crouch, Bevan, Maxfield....

They have a lot still to prove IMO.
I've been keeping a stat on this - the teams St Kilda have played/beaten were 14th, 16th, 11th and 16th at the end of the respective round.
Fremantle's opponents were 13th, 5th (us), 15th and 15th - guess which 3 were wins and which one was the loss.
Compare that with Adelaide who've played teams 2nd, 4th, 6th and 1st.
It'll be interesting to track this over the whole season but in St Kilda's case there is a long long way to go.

Yeah, he's one, we need to be patient with him, and he has a lot of work to do.
We could do something like in that Movie The Fly where we cross Jared McVeigh with Ben Mathews. Mathews Body and courage, with McVeigh's clean ball winning and running.
The other player that comes from the experiment we could trade to C/wood

Tony Rocky Horror. I am sure he is keen to live in Sydney this time.

But if we are to believe MM they have salary cap problems.
Very very hard to believe
