    Swans V Queanbeyan report

    Swans V Queanbeyan report

The Sydney Swans Reserves finished round one of the 2004 AFL Canberra season in fifth place on the ladder after a four goal loss to Queanbeyan in Canberra on Saturday.

Although the Swans managed a win last week against Weston Creek, they will not receive their four points until the end of round three. The game had been brought forward from then in order to provide the curtain raiser for the Sydney Swans v Geelong game at the SCG last Saturday.

The day started badly with the Swans losing Meiklejohn to a groin injury in the first five minutes but Queanbeyan were simply too good for a majority of the game. Especially in the second half, increasing their 12 point lead at the half time break to 25 by the final siren.

Sean Dempster played another strong game on the wing to be best for the Swans, while Cuy, a top up player from Queanbeyan and member of the ACT Rams squad, also played well.

Both Nicks and Warfe played on the half back line coming back from injury. Although Nicks spent parts of the day on and off the field to build his fitness, he kicked two of the Swans? 11 goals.

McGlone also put in a consistent performance playing on the ball and in the forward line, contributing a goal to the Swans? score.

This Saturday the Swans? Reserves take on Ainslie at Telstra stadium in the curtain raiser for the Sydney Swans v Melbourne game.

    Scores:

    Queanbeyan - 3.2 (20) 8.6 (54) 13.9 (87) 15.11(101)
    Sydney Swans ? 3.4 (22) 6.6 (42) 9.8(62) 11.10 (76)

    Best:
Swans ? Dempster, Cuy, Nicks, McGlone.

Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing!
