One good game? He would have polled brownlow votes in 2 games so far this year

And we will also throw Yze, Bruce and Johnstone at you. Good luck

if you talk about run from the backline, the Demons do it better than anyone

Bizzell, brown, Whelan, Rivers , Wheatley and Yze have been destroying teams all season running from the back half

For proof, see last weeks game vs Port where Bizzell and Brown were tagged at the start of the game

thats how scared Choco was about our run from the backline
Dude, seriously... there was no mention of Melbourne there. To answer the question discuss why you think that tagging is not the best way to stop the run out of Sydney's backline, don't start rabbiting on about how great the run is from your backline... or if you feel your backline run is comparable to Sydney's then maybe highlight why tagging does not work stopping run out of the backline in general.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

And I am saying that Choco tried to tag our backline last week and it failed miserably

So no, I dont think it is a good tactic to try on the Swans backline

I agree with Lizz. I don't think you can afford to 'tag' HBFs as such. You have to rely on your HFF to contest the ball all the time possible.

With footy these days, you have to be accountable for your player no matter where they move on the ground. The HBFs will try to run off their man and make space any time there is a turnover in their favour. The Melbourne backs have been doing it well this season and so have the Swans. More and more I see that there is concentration on defence all over the ground especially in the attacking 50's. the forwards are working harder than ever to keep the ball in there.

                REmember, it works both ways.

I for one will be back in here on Monday morning to take my licks or give my kicks, Dawson.

Tagging a defender. Doesnt that just mean accountable footy by the forwards? Surely a defender would never let his direct opponent stray too far from him, so the "tag" is applied the other way anyhow.

A midfield tagger is virtually stuck on his opponent. It usually means that he doesnt go for the ball unless its obvious he can get it. His job is to negate the possession tally and effectiveness of his target. To tag a defender would mean that a forward sacrifices his ball winning (leading and running into space) ability to stop the defender from getting the ball. And what if that defender moves up the ground? Does the forward follow him?

How does that make any sense?

you could say that last year when franchina picked up williams and williams went straight to the back-pocket that franchina was tagging a back, but that was just a smart move by roosy to try and break the tag as well as engaging williams in the rebound out of 50 and forcing franchina into a target (haha)

Indeed, I followed CHF over to Hawk Headquarters pre-round one and now it seems I have followed him here too. He is a man who will happily eat his words.

Good luck for the weekend Swans!

Never happily, Nasher..... *Smile*... never. I will acknowledge a better team on the day though.

I was also on Puntroadend prior to the 2nd round game as well. They were not happy campers on monday moring.

Anyway, good luck to the Swannies, I hope it is a good hard game. Think it will be a close one and hope to hell the Demons can do it for me.

I hope I am not included as one of the supporters confident of victory. I believe that it will be a hell of a lot closer than a lot of the Swan's supporter think it will be.

If I had to make a prediction I would say a close game to go either way with less than 2 goals in it.
Had to plug this prediction....*smile* by me........

And to make it even better the result came down on the side I wanted.

My feeling was spot on. I have a good feeling we can roll the bombers althought knocking them off on there own dung hill is a tough ask, we have a point to prove.

Melbournes Midfield was on top for possible 30 minutes of that game and it was enough to get them over the line, I would sure like that thompson running around in our colours, anyone know if he is out of contract as seasons end? I'd prefer him to Green OR Johnson.
