Melbourne coach Neale Daniher believes that it would be ?premature? to suggest that the Demons are a top-four side, but he believes that Sydney is in the best quartet of teams in the competition.

Speaking at Melbourne?s training at the MCG on Wednesday, Daniher said that along with the Swans, the Brisbane Lions, Port Adelaide and St Kilda deserved to be labeled top-four sides, while describing Melbourne as ?just a battler? at the moment.

?Let?s have a look at it in eight rounds or 10 rounds ? we?ll have a better idea where we?re at,? Daniher said of Melbourne?s prospects in 2004.

?Against the top four teams, you?ve got to be (in it) for four quarters, so I think each week we get a better guide.

?I think you probably need to look at eight games into the season I reckon, before you know exactly where you?re at.?

With the Demons playing the Swans at Telstra Stadium on Saturday night, Daniher said that the round-five clash would be a good indication of where the red and blue was at.

?The demolition job they (Sydney) were able to do on the Kangaroos who were three and zip ? they were able to just knock them out of the park. They?re a fantastic team in fantastic form, so it?ll be a really good test for us,? Daniher said.

Daniher said that senior players Travis Johnstone (thigh) and Daniel Ward (suspension) would be in the mix to resume this weekend, with one place already up for grabs after 2003 best-and-fairest winner Russell Robertson was suspended for one week by the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night for striking Port Adelaide?s Josh Carr last round.

?It?s disappointing to lose a player any time (through suspension),? Daniher said.

?Looking at the positive, at least he?s not injured and he?ll be back in a week, so that?ll go fairly quickly.

?He?s a team leader. He got sucked in. I said to him - ?anyone can make a mistake once, but if you do it two times? I won?t repeat how I finished that?.?

Daniher also said that Mark Jamar, Steven Armstrong, Chris Heffernan, Brock McLean, Daniel Bell and Nathan Carroll were also right in contention for selection after strong performances with Sandringham in the VFL.

So,e recognition from an opposition coach that he thinks we are in the top 4 in the comp. I tend to agree just hope the boys show the Melbourne boys exactly what it takes to play a top4 side.

You have to respect a coach that can get his team off the canvas and his own name off the "@@@@ list".

I like Neale, he's a fighter. Always has been and always will be, it's probably the New South Welshman in him!
