    And from Fagan

    Coach's Comment: Chris Fagan

Confidence is growing within our playing group after our 3rd win of the season against Port Adelaide last Saturday. Believe it or not, it is the first time we have won three games in a row since the final three rounds of the 2001 season.

It was good to win so strongly against a team who have been the most consistent home & away performers of the past few years. Port were in tremendous form and had plenty of motivation to win on Saturday given their desire to win at the MCG, the home of finals footy. We played with intensity & boldness and importantly had an even effort across the team. It was great to see emerging leaders like Brad Green, Paul Wheatley, Matthew Whelan & Cam Bruce have such a big influence on the game.

Now for the Swans - one of the most underrated but best performed teams in the AFL over the past 12 months. They have continued with their strong form in 2004 and like us have 3 wins on the board. This should ensure a high quality clash at Telstra Stadium on Saturday night. For our group the game represents another opportunity to gain respect by playing well against a team who are currently in red hot form and were preliminary finalists in 2003. Their victory over an in-form Kangaroos at Manuka on Sunday was oustanding and they will go into this game as favourites. They will be tough to beat, especially at home but we know that if our effort and intensity is up and we play with discipline & intelligence a great victory is possible.

The occasion, Melbourne v Sydney on Anzac Day weekend, will be a big motivation for both groups. I'm sure both teams respect the significance of this day in our history and recognise the great sacrifice that our forefathers made to keep our country safe & free.

We will have a normal preparation leading into the game. We'll have a good hit out at the "G" on Wednesday morning and travel up to Sydney on Friday where we will have a light training run at Telstra Stadium. Given that we haven't played at the venue before this session will be vitally important from a familiarisation perspective. Travis Johnstone & Daniel Ward will be available this week and after Sandringham's strong performance on Sunday a lot of players are pressing for selection. Difficult to change a winning team though!

I still can't believe Chris Fagan is an AFL assistant coach, for all you Tasmanian's out there, I remember when he was North Hobart's Assistant coach, then Sandy Bay's Head Coach in the TFL....

He has done so well coming from that background with no AFL experience as such..

Anyway, sorry had nothing to do with your post!

What? Did Paul Williams and Cressa bring a few of you Taswegians up in their suitcases when they moved up here?

Haha been a few Tasmanians at the Swans over the years, even the infamous Gerrard Bennett!!

Come from a long line of South and now Sydney fans. Tassie has a big supporter base actually for the swans. Shane Fell, when he returned to Tassie after his stint with us used to run Swans Supporters gatherings at his hotel!.

Always wondered what happened to Shane Fell down.

Only joking, I had completley forgotten about him, and I can't even remember him being with us. Remember him as a Geelong player. Oh well.

          Interesting. Probably not.

Fell was going to be the next big thing, in a time we were begging for next big things. One particular day he had a bit of a day out, kicking a few.

The aftermatch at that time was held at the Norfolk Hotel in Cleveland St (? name).

You would have loved it DrJ. I walked in with me mate KO'K and there against the back wall with a bird under each arm, a gaspar in the gob and a schooner in the hand was our great white hope.

Me and KO'K just looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders. 'Ah well, at least the aftermatches are going to be fun this year'.

Rolled out of the place late and that's just what it was like back in those days.

In the words of Rex Hunt.

                Maaaaaaggggggniiiiificennt!!!!!!!!!.

Shane Fell, don't remember that much about him as a Swan.

Just had a look in Jim Mains "plugger & the mighty Swans"

FELL., SHANE 1990 15 games, 30 goals. Full-forward recruited from Tasmania to replace Warwick Capper.

Geez he was stiff to get shafted after just one season. 30 goals would seem like a good return for one of our forwards in those days.

Didn't Bernard Toohey end up top goal kicker the next year with 27?

Christ everyone got a go, Jim West!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My memory is Shane Fell kicked some bags in practice matches, but was too short for AFL level. Didn't he start at Geelong, then end up at Richmond.
You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler
