    Memories of Brisbane...

Watching the Swannies at present, I can't help but think back to 2001. Essendon were "the team of the century", unbeatable, hard, full of superstars....then along came the new kids on the block Brisbane. Only a few gave them a chance of knocking off the Bombers but they played great footy, were full of confidence and were unstopable.

I think we're in the same position now - and I have to say for the first time in 10 years of being a member I now watch the Swans and wonder when we'll win the flag, not if we'll win it.....

Lions v Swannies GF 2004, Swans to take their crown.
    Regards,

    Boro Boy

big call!! If there is one team I wouldnt want to play in the GF, it would be the Lions. These guys know how to win the high pressure games. I would hope to play a Port or Freo, who traditionally dont play well at the G.

I'm with you on that Boroboy. But that also changes the whole experience doesn't it? It used to be enough to just appreciate a good game and - ideally - a good win. But now we're thinking of percentages and ladder positions. I know everyone will say that it's early days but I can't think of anything in terms of players, coach, team support and tough finals experience that is an impediment right now. It may not be this year - or it might - but it's there for the taking. Exciting and scary.

BUT you can't get too far ahead of yourself. Just because we can doesn't mean we will. You may not remember PJ Proby saying he'll be bigger than the Beatles - then disappeared without a trace. Or, closer to home, Kevin Sheedy saying that he didn't care if everyone hated the Bombers because they were going to be like the Chicago Bulls and reign invincible - that was in 2001.

But we are now looking into the window of opportunity.

.....while they drag Eddie away to funny farm mumbling over and over what sounds like "salary cap".

Maybe we should start booking accomodation now?

I would love that. Not only am I envious of the Bears winning those Premierships, but the way they make C/wood hurt.

Wouldn't all the salary cap stuff be music to your ears, knowing it was causing them to go insane from the obsession.

That would be great, hundreds of Pies fans, knowing it was eating at them.

Very funny seeing as so many of them kept saying how great their list was, how terrible ours was just 18 months ago.

We'll just have to wait and see.........
