Charlie, everytime you speak about Andrew Schauble I agree.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Yep. Without him fit and playing, we will be asking the same question every week: who do we play on {Lloyd; Lynch; Gehrig; Neitz; *insert gorilla here*}????? As good as James looks so far, I'd much rather see him take the second or third tall forward.

Also, Schauble's organisation and leadership on the last line is not to be undervalued.

Roos said today on SEN that Davis will definately play this week, and Micky O will play next week, could have played this week but would rather make sure the hammy is fine and doesn't want to risk tearing it.

Yes. I've often said that he's about the most underrated player at the Swans.

But a defender can't play without match fitness. Unlike Micky at the other end of the field, Schauble will have to match an opponent for stamina.

I'd bet money that Schauble will play reserves before seniors.

            Midaro, spot on the money.

Charlie, are you disagreeing with Midaro (and myself) or not?????

Can't see either of us disagreeing that Schaubs is a vital cog, just that he needs a run in the 2's.

Do you think he can/should come straight back in to the firsts or not?

In the past I think Schaubs has come in straight to the senior team after his lay-offs, but usually to play forward for a couple of matches - which is feasible for the same reasons it is for Magic.

Just a problem of where he'd fit now that Saddo's moved in - Hall, Goodes, O'Loughlin, Davis, O'Keefe, Schauble, Saddo, Schneider all in the forward line might be a bit of overkill!

I think he should. He's probably one of only about a dozen who could demand his spot back straight away.

Even playing off the bench, he's going to be worth having.

Charlie - I'm with you. As I've been saying here for ages, he's an excellent football brain and we'll need him more and more as we go against the major teams. I suspect we'll miss him this weekend but we need the excitement anyway.

The major issue I have with rushing either Schaubs or Magic back in without a run in the 2s is who to leave out? Surely at this stage the only guys to go could be McVeigh or Bevan, and I doubt any NRS nominee has ever been dropped the week after his nomination. Unless of course we have other injuries (sorry, just whacked myself in the head).

You dont play a key defender off the bench, Charlie. If the defence works, you dont change your setup. If it does not work, the last thing you want is to throw a half-fit defender into the battle. He might re-injure himself playing catch-up. Giving him at least a couple of ressies is the natural choice. May be three games if we are conservative. How many weeks Schaubles has been on the sideline now??? 6-8???

If we are amazingly lucky and we incur no new injuries before Schauble and O'Loughlin return (and that just isn't gonna happen ), LRT would be the first to go - then O'Keefe ,Bevan and McVeigh, would be asked to draw numbers from a hat

Our game plan relies heavily on the fitness of the back half and their ability to run the ball out of defense. So Shaubs will have to get fit in the twos first. Then we will have a nice problem. Magic must come straight back - he's won games for us on one leg in the past, and also never seems to lose his touch like others do.

Without LRT, our group of taller players seem quite static to me which is something I dont like.

We might want to rotate McVeigh and Bevan through the season, neither of them will last through the whole campaign.

I am no fan of O'Keefe as a midfielder. As a forward specialist, he is behind O'Loughlin, Davis and Schneider in pecking order.

Hmmm . . . playing a former club champion in the reserves.

                              That'll be interesting!
