I'm sure there is more.Winners and losers for both clubs.

I am not sure if Brereton came to us after his stint at Collingwood or if it was the other way around.
Brereton headed south to the wobbles from us.

Yes we also had the small tagger Mark Orchard, very quick, stayed a couple in the mid 90's went back for 'personal reasons' and of course Paul Hawke back and forward and didn't Barry Mitchell go to the Pies for a time, prior to Blues?
Sports do not build character. They reveal it....Heywood Broun

McPhee should not be considered. They swapped the picks (37 for 39 or something) which netted them McPhee. We dont pay for him so to speak. It comes down Williams vs Motlop.

Williams has already given us 60+ quality games. He is on course for probably ~120 quality games.

If Motlop becomes a 150 gamer, the deal is even. If he becomes a 200 gamer, we loose.

Whether it is the question of Motlop vs Williams is another story. NM had picked 6 and 8 and thus some strategy in selecting Smith ahead of Motlop might have been used.

If you don't count McPhee, than Williams was a very good get - no question. I rate McPhee over Motlop.

Maybe he would not be such a great pickup today, but he has given the club great service, and at the time was one of the best going around, and is still plays a great game. He also had to share the ball in the midfield with a few others which reduced his number of possies/game. Guys like Kelly, Cressa, Maxfield.

McPhee is certainly developing into a fine footballer but bear in mind that he is at his second club. Talk is that he was keen to return to Melbourne and that was at least part of the reason he was traded by the Dockers. So even if we'd picked him, he may not longer be around here.

Anyone recall what the Bombers "paid" for McPhee?

I see Williams as one of our core rock solid players - along with Crouch. They are the engine room that even more flashy players can feed from. I'd love to know if his clanger count is as low as I perceive it to be?

From memory, wasn't he part of their salary-cap clearout, which went something like

                      Out:
                      Caracella
                      Heffernan
                      Blumfield

                      In
                      McPhee
                      Cupido

According to Essendon Robert Shirley(pick 56)I think they got a very good deal. The Freo supporters seem to think McPhee was a dime a dozen player at their club. mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Pretty sure it was one of those round-robin deals that delivered Headland to the Dockers.

Good memory This from the AFL website

                            Details of the Headland deal:

                            * Des Headland has got his wish to return to Western Australian and Blake Caracella has officially joined the Lions as part of a three-club deal that will allow Headland to play with Fremantle.

The Lions will exchange Damian Cupido and their first-round pick (No.17 overall) to Essendon in exchange for Caracella, and will send Headland to the Dockers for their first two picks (No.5 and No.21).

To complete the trade, Essendon will also give up selection No.60 to Fremantle for Dockers youngster Adam McPhee.

Those 2 are not in the same class as Williams.

Depends on the quality of games. So far Motlop has not shown that he would be asked to clean Willo's boots. Motlop is one of those players who looks flashy and does the occasional amazing thing, but for mine he appears not to have improved one iota.
                                150 + games, I doubt it.
