I think despite my Tasmanian allegiances towards him, Willo disappointed me the most. He made some really bad decisions with the ball and just didn?t seem to connect all night, he did have enough of it to make a difference...but one bad game in a while isn't that bad...I guess??

They (the team in general) just didn't seem interested in the easier options, they seemed to miss the obvious and as mentioned in this thread try and take on the man right in the front of them.

One positive (until later in the game) was the awesome kicking in front of goal.

We've been 'getting away' with playing Bevan, LRT, McVeigh, James and Doyle together and tonnight it told.

Our midfield was definately shown up last night. I just hope and pray we can turn things around. We looked very very slow and how many times do the guys need to be told to man up

hells no!!!

he would be just taken out of the play - the opposition team would not have to worry about matching up on him as he would be matching up on somebody else...

goodes should not play in defence unless he is a spare man

He'll get more goals setting them up in the centre than kicking a couple (or missing them, just as likely) up forward.

Seriously though, seeing as how everybody gives their votes to the BEST players, as they saw them, why can't I include it along with his other accolades? I know anyone who doesn't patronise this site doesn't have a clue what it is, but so what?

While it's judged by a different group to the Skilton and Brownlow, it has it's place.

Hmm. Has Goodes ever played in the defense? Hes probably too unaccountable and I really think hes too skilled to waste in the back line. As a floater drifting back to help out maybe.

Hes got the endurance to run in the midfield though. I reckon we stick him there.

His first two games(pre-season) were played at fullback, I would like to see him atleast tried down back. He's just such a top player you really need three of him.

I don't think he'd be out of the play at all at CHB -- quite the opposite.

Let's face it -- he's not the most reliable kick at goal. But with his speed & endurance, he could turn CHB into a platform to launch a lot of attacks from. He could be inside F50 in a flash himself, or at least close enough for a short kick to one of the forwards. He wouldn't be too small against any 'gorillas', and he'd probably run most of them into the ground if they're trying to be accountable on him.

Think how much extra run/rebound we'd get our of defence with him in between Tige & Leo? As a more than capable go-to man, any opposition thrusts that broke down could come back immediately back at them -- through the centre of the ground.

Not to harp on about too much ('cause it'll probably never happen anyway), but on paper, it looks OK:

B:&nbsp;&nbsp; Schaub/James
HB: Tige &nbsp; Goodes &nbsp; Leo
C:&nbsp;&nbsp; Jude/Nic
HF: Baz
F:&nbsp;&nbsp; Magic

It strengthens our spine & HB line at the same time.

I reckon with our style of play, it'd put him in the thick of things, rather than out of it. And if he made this position his 'home', than that's two problems solved!

I'd love for Goodes to ultimately become a CHB.

You've got to factor in that as his career progresses, he's probably going to lose some pace and move to a more traditional key position role (rather than go everywhere).

So, given his kicking for goal has been historically poor (I'm not just talking about Saturday ), a permanent backman position iswould be optimal.

The only problem I have with the idea, is the fact that he has never really played there. Is it too late?

I thought the reason Goodes is so effective is that the opposition teams can't match up on him when he is rucking or running around in the midfield because he is too fast and aerobic for the big blokes and too strong and good in the air for the run with players.
To even think of playing him on the likes of Tredrea,Brown,Ottens, and other key forwards beggers belief IMHO.He won the Brownlow as a ruckman for crying out loud.
A couple of dodgy kicks shouldn't take away from the fact he was still the Swans leading posession getter.

Although we didn't perform as well as hoped I think we will beat Essendon.Collingwood are undermanned and the Dons really struggled for a while.Takeout Hird and they would have been in real trouble.

I don't want Goodes at CHB. In my mind it is still a fully accountable, defensive position- especially when you have two Flankers on either side running strongly out of defence. I want Goodes to go back to being Kouta Mk2, I want him ruck-rover or center and making someone else care about HIM as their main role, not the other way around. As wonderful as Goodesy is, if he plays CHB on Brown, Tredrea or Rawlings his primary role would go from creating to stopping that player. Maybe CHB later in his career.

I get annoyed enough that we currently seem to have only gun midfield taggers and not actual gun midfielders (Willo excepted). I am tired of the lead-up to games being concerned with who our midfielders will take instead of who will take our midfielders. It looked like Jude had a tag on Saturday night and he didn't handle it well.

it' strange how certain results effect us. I had the worse nights sleep Saturday. I kept waking up and reliving parts of the game in my mind. I'm still rather numb about it all and intend to watch the replay this afternoon. Perhaps it's because we should have put Melbourne away (no disrespect intended to the Dee's)

I was also just overawed with the way our midfield was not there. So many times we would have the ball come flying out of our forward 50 and the ONLY players in the centre were Melbourne.

This hot and cold type of midfield play is so frustrating. It needs to be asked. Were we so good against the Kanga's or were they really bad? If we were so good, then why can't we sustain it. These are all questions only the players and coaching staff can answer for us. I just hope they find the answer and enter it to memory.

After watching the Ressie's this weekend, I don't think we have an easy answer to our problems. There didn't seem to be much passion there either.
