    ben mathews

i don't wanna sound like a 'bennie groupie' but , again, i thought he had a decent game on saturday. I kept the binoculars on him as i've often wondered how he gets those possessions and if he really has skills . On the latter i'm still not convinced BUT he goes hard at the ball, usually kicks constructively (sometimes slowly but that simply means he's looking for a target), and causes havoc to his opponent with pure aggression.Roos moved him onto at least six players trying to stop the flow from the centre bounce and he nullified most of these and still managed to pick up 19 possesions,6 marks and 4 tackles.
i thought he was the swans BOG.

I don't think he was BOG, but he played his usual solid game. He hsa always managed to get a lot of the ball, whether in the packs or as a link man, but often his disposal let him down. This included kicking straight to the opposition or handballing to someone under pressure. Over the past year or so he has improved his disposal a lot and rarely puts in a bad performance these days.

I think barry hall was close to our best, he constantly cause havoc everytime the ball went inside out 50 or there abouts, the big guy was rocking!

        yeh, just kidding about BOG.
Bazza was terrific, and so was kirk, williams,goodes....
but Ben deserves respect and recognition.
Amazing that this year , it appears, we have no players to 'crap on' even after a loss.
I think Roos was too harsh in his 'comedy' comments too.
I actually watched Bevan closely and was very impressed BUT his kicking is crap.

Mathews has to be the most under-rated player in our side. He just keeps doing the same thing week in and week out. This season has seen him get more time in the midfield and he is getting plenty of the ball. For me he has been our second best midfielder of the season behind Kirk.
          Once was, now elsewhere

He is averaging almost 25 possesions a game this year! And generally all have been effective.
            Under rated ? BIG TIME.

He is also the highest swan on the Herald Sun Footballer of the year chart.

              A quiet acheiver.
