You just have to look at the leading goal-kicking tally this season to know that there is an abundance of great forwards in the game at the moment. Not since the days of Tony Lockett, Gary Ablett and Jason Dunstall has there been this many traditional full forwards in the AFL and I think it is great for the game.
Fraser Gehrig ? St.Kilda
Fraser has got the perfect build. He is well over 100 kilograms, so he is as strong as any full-forward, but he also has great pace as well. He has got perfect attributes in the modern day football to be strong and explosive off the mark as well. In a side that is on the rise he is an important focal point, so he should be in for a big season.
David Neitz - Melbourne
David has been fantastic since he has taken on the captaincy. He is definitely Melbourne?s most important player. Whenever he plays well they win and when he doesn?t - Round 1 for example - they tend to struggle a little bit. He has been in great form and has a real presence and makes other players stand tall around him. He is just a fantastic lead and a good kick for goal as well.
Alastair Lynch - Brisbane
I grew up watching Alastair as a Fitzroy supporter and he was one of my favourite players back then. He has won three premierships in a row and kicked 50 to 70 goals in those seasons. He is fantastic on the lead and takes a great grab. To come back from chronic fatigue and at 35 years of age is an amazing effort.
Brendan Fevola - Carlton
Two things stand out to me about Brendan is that he is a great lead and he is a beautiful kick. He is a long thumping kick and not many can kick from 50m and be accurate. He is one that can do that. What I like about him also is he has performed when his side has struggled. You put more value on a player that doesn?t get the opportunities that he might have at a stronger club.
Barry Hall ? Sydney
Barry works as hard as any forward going around ? his work ethic is phenomenal and that is why he hasn?t played too many bad games. He probably creates as many as he gets as well, which is a great attribute to have.
It would be remiss of me not to mention Warren Tredrea. He is that ?Wayne Carey? type of centre half forward / full forward. His first three rounds were as good as anyone?s and he kicked 15 goals. He is another guy with a huge work rate and has also been captaining the side really well.
LOOKING ahead to Saturday?s match at the MCG. It will be great to add a few experienced players to the side that have been missing due to injury. It is fantastic at the moment that it is competitive for positions in the team. You know you are going well when you have got good players missing out.
We haven?t played Sydney at the MCG since the qualifying final in 1999 and we are coming off two games at the ground, so hopefully this will work in our favour. It will be great to get a huge crowd behind us and support us as we strive for our fourth consecutive victory.
I think most people think that Sydney will be a top-four side this year and the two losses we have had have been to top two sides St.Kilda and Port Adelaide. It will give us a huge amount of confidence to beat a team that will play finals and it is still fresh in our minds the toweling they gave us last year in Sydney.
