    Team this week

OK I have left out Magic and Maxfield because of injuries (but if either is fit they would replace Ablett)and I have dropped LRT for Rogers is really because I rather give Rogers a chance in the seniors and have a player who is more suited to full back on the bench, to take on Lloyd if Heath James stuggles early.

Kirk to take Hird and I would think about using Jason Ball to fill the hole in front of Lloyd with Saddo, playing the loose man in defence helping out where ever we need him. One thing this side shows is that we are really stuggling with depth in the midfield at the moment because of injury.

Also I have named Willo as captain if Maxfield doesn't come up. I think this week it would be best to leave Goodes to do his own thing instead of giving him the added pressure of captain.

B: Jared Crouch Heath James Jason Saddington
HB: Tadhg Kennelly Craig Bolton Leo Barry
C: Ben Mathews Paul Williams (c) Nic Fosdike
HF: Ryan O'Keefe Barry Hall Adam Schneider
F: Nick Davis Stephen Doyle Luke Ablett
R: Adam Goodes Jude Bolton Brett Kirk
Int: Aaron Rogers Jarred McVeigh Paul Bevan Jason Ball
Em: Amon Buchanan Lewis Roberts-Thomson Josh Thewlis

    In: Rogers and Ablett
    Out: Maxfield (inj) and LRT

Watched Jude on WLF tonight and he mentioned that Rogers is definately in the squad and seemed to suggest he might get his first game.

Maxfield didn't train today, although they're saying he should play he's gotta be doubtful.
Wonder who'll be captain if that happens.

We don't have any vice captain as such, but we have a leadership group in that place. Its a group of about 10 or so senior players. If Maxfield wasn't to play, I think the captain would be either Willo or Goodes with Jude an outside chance.

If it's raining, would we perhaps be better off going with an extra small? I'm thinking Buchanan.

We have no shortage of marking power, but in poor conditions that'll count for little. Reckon it'd help to have Monty and Schneides hanging around to get it at ground level.

Poor weather will negate Lloyd's influence, and help Jamesy, if the athleticism and dexterity he's shown so far are anything to go by.

Hird is another matter. C-Bolt and Kirky will be drawing straws I reckon.

Weather is meant to be fine on Friday and the ground holds the water well. Essendon does not play well in wet. Key thing though is to kick longer and not overdo handball.

From my dodgy memory they play much better wet weather footy then us. A few years back, we were sitting on top of the ladder unbeaten and faced Essendon at the SCG. We were flogged and it was p*ssing down!! They played long and direct, we mucked around chipping it short.

Essendon were a different team then.

The game you're talking about was only four matches after they won the 2000 GF.

                  Maybe so

They beat us the night Ricky Mott missed that goal. It was raining then too.

                  I'm sensing a trend, albiet a 2 game trend.

I'm praying that it is dry on Saturday.

Yeah, I was thinking this the other day, a few guys can run in the middle but with current injuries we don't seem to have any genuine midfielders reasy to walk into the side.

Doyle playing at full forward would be alright, but Ball on the bench?
