Great news - he deserves it after his pre-season form. Nice to see another Sydneysider there as well!
Did he ever play a senior game for Melbourne?Comment

Wow - this is a bit of a surprise to hear this bloke is coming into the team.

It's really good to see that Paul Roos is staying true to his aim of blooding junior players. It makes us nervous but so far there is no sign that any have been brought in too early. In fact, the way they just fit in with the seniors - and often star - is really gratifying.
Go Aaron - I hope you have a great game.Comment

It was definitely a bit of a suprise, logging onto the net and seeing that Aaron Rodgers was debuting. I don't know that much about him but I've heard that his pre-season was great. Good on him!Sydney Swans Premiers 2005 - The Mighty BloodsComment

Saddington's record agaisnt SnDon and in particular Scott Lucas is very good, expect to start forward and be used on Lucas if he cuts loose.

I heard Troy's interview with Aaron on Saturday (I think) - one of the points that Aaron made when comparing the Swans with Melbourne was that the Swans reserves team is there to improve the Swans players. Melbourne's VFL team (Sandringham ?) are a club in their own right and they have their own players who are naturally dead keen to get a game, so sometimes it is hard for developing players like Troy to get a run in the VFL team.
Troy - is there any chance that your one-on-one interviews with Swans players could be made available ? I guess there are a zillion legal, financial and technical hurdles to overcome. Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.Comment

Rogers' dream come true

Sydney Swans rookie, Aaron Rogers - who spent two forgettable years with the Demons before moving north for the 2004 season - will make his debut this weekend against Essendon at the MCG on Saturday after spending the previous five weeks as an emergency.
The 20-year-old was elevated, along with AFL Rising Star round four nominee Paul Bevan, to ?Nominated Rookie? status making him eligible for selection in the senior team this year.
?It?s a big thrill? a dream come true,? Rogers told Sportal.
?My parents have been waiting two and-a-half years to hear the news so they are over the moon.
?I think I have a convoy of about 10-15 people coming down to watch me so it?s exciting times for our family.?
It is also exciting times for local football as he joins the growing ranks of New South Wales boys playing for the Swans, and he remains very close to many teammates he played his junior football with such as Adam Schneider, Jarrad McVeigh, Mark Powell, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Paul Bevan and James Meiklejohn.
?They all gave me calls when they heard I was coming to the Swans in December and they are all really happy for me.
?It?s great to be playing with my mates especially in my first game.?
Rogers spent one week training at Windy Hill between leaving Melbourne and joining Sydney but admitted he couldn?t pass on any inside tips to coach Paul Roos.
However, he played against the Bombers twice in the pre-season and hopes it will help him come Saturday afternoon.
?I played on (David) Hille and (Scott) Lucas so I think that will help me a little bit coming into the weekend but obviously it is a big step from a practice match to a real AFL game.?
After playing up forward during his Melbourne days and down back this year, Rogers expects to play at both ends depending on how the game pans out.

Fantastic to see another St George boy in the side. He was probably unlucky not to play a game for Melbourne but he has certainly taken his chance in Sydney.
He should come in for Saddington, he has played his one good game for the year and will be useless again for the rest of the season.Comment

Well done and good luck! Can only image what it would be like to make your debut on the MCG. I hope he reads Kirky's article before making the trip."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Reply to Undy: The Swans have previously forbidden us from having the Swans interviews in audio form on the site saying something like, why would they let interviews be on any website but theirs, but if someone wants to tape them and has the time to transcribe them for RWO then I don't have a problem with that!Comment
