Sydney Swans rookie, Aaron Rogers - who spent two forgettable years with the Demons before moving north for the 2004 season - will make his debut this weekend against Essendon at the MCG on Saturday after spending the previous five weeks as an emergency.
The 20-year-old was elevated, along with AFL Rising Star round four nominee Paul Bevan, to ?Nominated Rookie? status making him eligible for selection in the senior team this year.
?It?s a big thrill? a dream come true,? Rogers told Sportal.
?My parents have been waiting two and-a-half years to hear the news so they are over the moon.
?I think I have a convoy of about 10-15 people coming down to watch me so it?s exciting times for our family.?
It is also exciting times for local football as he joins the growing ranks of New South Wales boys playing for the Swans, and he remains very close to many teammates he played his junior football with such as Adam Schneider, Jarrad McVeigh, Mark Powell, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Paul Bevan and James Meiklejohn.
?They all gave me calls when they heard I was coming to the Swans in December and they are all really happy for me.
?It?s great to be playing with my mates especially in my first game.?
Rogers spent one week training at Windy Hill between leaving Melbourne and joining Sydney but admitted he couldn?t pass on any inside tips to coach Paul Roos.
However, he played against the Bombers twice in the pre-season and hopes it will help him come Saturday afternoon.
?I played on (David) Hille and (Scott) Lucas so I think that will help me a little bit coming into the weekend but obviously it is a big step from a practice match to a real AFL game.?
After playing up forward during his Melbourne days and down back this year, Rogers expects to play at both ends depending on how the game pans out.
