    Ladies Lunch

For any RWOettes that attended, how was it? I trust you were all pumping the boys up for a great game on Sunday

It was a fun, relaxed lunch / afternoon. There were about a dozen players in attendance, as well as five of their mothers (B1, Davis, McVeigh, Bevan and LRT's).

Was slightly uncomfortable with the underlying "theme" which was very much along the lines of "we love watching football because you all have such hot bodies". It would have been OK for a couple of jokey comments along these lines to set the relaxed atmosphere of the lunch but it was laid on with a shovel and became tedious (and a tad insulting to our interest in football, IMO). Given that the crowd seemed a largely "corporate" one, I'm not sure that this theme would have gone down that well.

Still, the players who were there seemed in good spirits and were generous with their time. Had a short chat with O'Keefe, Kirk and Saddo and all three were friendly and open.

Hopefully they will make this a regular (annual) event but develop a more mature theme for future events.

I noticed in the poll that the Daily Telegraph ran on women that a lot of the questions seemed to be caught up with this theme as well. 65% sad they go to the footy to watch the game, and the next question they ask is who the sexiest Swans player is, FFS.

That is such an insult to women to go to the game because they've developed a love of the game, and not for the players. By the sounds of it, I would have thought that the footy club would have been more professional at the ladies lunch though.

I liked the idea of the AFL to have a ladies footy forum at Telstra Dome on Tuesday. I didn't go, but it appeared that it focused on all of the different aspects of football that women are involved in, including careers for women in the AFL.

No wonder women are more interested in the game these days, the short are that tight anymore

Don't worry about the Tele, guys. They're just so caught up in why guys watch rugby league (it can't possibly be the game, so it must be the cheerleaders), that they assume it applies to AFL as well!

Liz, Swanette and I shared a table with some other friends. Agree with Liz's comments. It was, though, a pleasant way to spend a thursday afternoon!

For once, I didn't take notes to write a report for RWO. Sorry.

But, I did have a good chat with Jude's mum, Paul B's mum, as well as Nick D, Matty N, Jason S and sat in on Liz and Swanette interviewing Kirky over the team!

There were over 300 (mostly) ladies there.

If Nick Davis was there - does it look like he will play this weekend?

Also I feel the price is way too much for the average person to attend.
Why cannot they bring it to under $100 - even $99 makes is much more reasonable and would warrant a day off work to enjoy the occasion as a mum and grandmother.

Nick seemed to be pretty confident of playing.

We organised a table and thus it was only $90 per head. IIRC, Swanette posted here asking if anyone was interested in coming to PM her to be part of our table.

The reality is that if you are going to use a venue like a big hotel, that the meal cost is quite high. And they should be making some money out of it. I'm part of another committee, organising lunches and the costs are quite extraordinary.

Does it seat 300+ for a sit down meal + all the AV gear required for videos, speeches, etc? I suspect not. It's a different context.
