A couple of players today showed they are on their last chance.
I hate to single a young bloke out but Powell had plenty of game time for absolutely no influence. Has been there what, 3 years? He is one who has suffered playing in the ACTAFL - how do you learn to play in that league. Ablett is another - though I do think he is still a chance.
I think it is significant that Buchanan played a lot of football for Port Melbourne and looks OK at the senior level.
Doyle cant play in the wet - no surprise there. His ruckwork is sometimes OK but he is struggling at the moment.
I feel sorry for Maxfield who is struggling with injury but at least he tries 100%.
Jude, Fosdike and Goodesy were terrible. Jude and Fosdike should have a run in the seconds to get confidence. I can't believe Fosdike had 14 disposals but there you go.
We need a new game plan when it is wet - 2 weeks in a row and we were worse today.
is there anyone left who still thinks we got ripped off against the bombers? last week was a lesson not to play half-hearted dilletente football and we just didn't listen.
the least imaginative team in the land seemed to have our game plan completely sussed, so how predictable does that make us? no-one is prepared to try anything special nor look capable of doing it.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

How can you single out Powell for criticism? He didn't have much game time in the first half and when he was on in the second it was mostly in the forward line. God knows how many times we managed to get it past the centre in the second half.
I was watching Jude a bit closer today, it seems he was more interested in negating his opponent rather than getting the football. Almost epitomises the fact that we're playing a reactive type of game ATM.
The two players that have gone backwards most this year are J Bolton and Goodes, and these were the two who were most important to our midfield performance last year.
They are playing similar football to how they went in 2002 and prior - poor decision making, bad skill errors, and turnovers.
I was highly critical of both of these guys previously and had to eat humble pie in 2003. This year however, my earlier criticisms are valid. Hopefully, last year was not just a one-off for both of them.

I know what you are saying ugg but he has had quite a few chances and I don't remember him having much influence on any game. He has been there a while and won't make it imho.
I guess what I am saying is that only 1 draftee in recent times (Schneider) is a guaranteed starter in the best 22. Powell, LRT etc are all fringe players and don't look to be improving much.
Besides, I am swinging at anything in front of me at the minute!!
You could have said the same about Buchanan before today or even ROK a few years ago. They can't make an impression if they're not given the opportunity. Who knows where Bevan would be if Kennelly wasn't injured for Round 1.
I've seen Powell a couple of times in the reserves and I think he has got what it takes. Our next Leo Barry IMO. He's fearless, has a good leap and is hard at the ball.

With respect if you are talking about him playing well in the ACTAFL then I don't know if that is a great sign of a good AFL standard footballer. The problem is the difference in standard between the two leagues. You can get a way with a lot of bad habits (eg lazyness) in that league. He is pretty gutsy though - I'll give you that.

ROK was good in first half, kept presenting but even his disposal into forward 50 was dissapointing.
Hard to take anything out of this game.
Come on, it's all about chances...getting them and taking them. In our crappest display for a while Buchanan did himself a lot of good, Powell has hardly had the chance you come up from the ACT matches get 10 minutes out of position in a league that is in a different stratosphere, the hieracrchy know this!
I don't think everyone has gone backwards at such an alarming rate, I think we need to look at our set plays because it looks like everyone else has, and we have been outcoached....in this case by Spud for goodness sake!
