I think we can beat the Eagles this week. Playing on the bigger ground might be what we need to get our running game going, and to start playing well again.

If you shut down their midfield to some degree as well as Matera, you have them beaten as their backs and forwards are fairly second rate. They have been lucky to win any games, so their form is far worse than ours.

If some changes are made at the selection table this week, and if Micky comes back, I think we're a big chance. They've just got to get back to playing as a unit and not as individuals. I know Micky will be underdone, but he still gives us another option and will be better for the run.

Thoughts? And can we win?

Yes we can win!

Although if we need to fulfill one condition that you mention - shutting down their midfield - then I dont like our chances. More space means we are more likely to get torn apart in there.

Im not ruling out an upset, but Im not getting my hopes up after the Richmond debacle.

Potentially we can win as I think our forward line is much better than their back line, and their forward line is not really much better than our back line. The main issue will be midfield - can we get the ball into our forward line enough and effectively to make it count, and can we stop their midfield enough to make it difficult for them to go I50 effectively. Problem is I don't have a lot of faith in our midfield at the moment. A bigger ground may suit us though.

i reckon we have a good chance.

first of all there may be a release of pressure to some extent because of the low expectations against the subi hoodoo.

our backs should be able to well hold their forwards (can you imagine leo barry head-to-head with sampi? it's going to be like some aerial anime fight-scene) and therefore be released to play our best game. with the backs basically adding to what becomes a collective midfield that extends from the back goal-square to the forward 50 we may have the variation in running attack to overcome the best four runners in the comp. if we are close to breaking even in these facets of the game we should be able to win on the strength of our forwards.

i reckon it all comes down to spirit and a sense of freedom. if the team goes in to play their natural game and doesn't get caught up in trying to negate the eagles so much we'll win. if the spirit is lacking, we'll lose as i don't think we'll win a grind over there.

i reckon we're in a similar situation to when we were looking at "melbourne-pies-lions" after round five last year.

i actually have managed to convince myself somewhat. anyone else?

I firmly believe that there is no team that can beat us when we are firing and on-song. The trouble is one of form, confidence and consistency.

Definitely we CAN win...we can beat any team on the day, we DO have the talent! Whether we will is another matter...

What's with the sudden optimism.

Also p46 Micky as an inclusion will give us another option but Schuable is by far more important to the structure of the team we have enough scoring avenues without Micky.

After witnessing one of the most pathetic performances in living memory by the Swans yesterday, the flood of negative and pessimistic hyperbole is not surprising. Much of it is simply venting frustration and it is quite effective in that way. In the cold light of the next day, there is some attempt to regroup and hope for next week. Football is such a fickle game, there is often the slightest glimmer of hope, which the Swans can naturally find because we can hang our hat on last year's effort. Finding that hope will become more difficult if there is no turnaround as that will suggest that last year was a one-off and they really did "play above themselves!"

No way Micky will go to Perth. Sitting in a seat for hours won't help is hammie. Would be the first to do a hammie on a plane trip.

After the weekends debacle I am expecting this game to be the one that turns our year around, much like the dees game.

Roos would have ripped up the current game plan and said to the boys "Lets rock and roll like 2003!!"

ok i wont get carried away.

Yeah it's over in WA..but a win there would boost our confidence more than a win at home would.

The problem is the following week..but lets take it one week at a time.

Bigger ground means more space means we can run. Hopefully it wont rain.

No need to rip up the game plan it is a proven winner.

Need to get the team mentally right so they can actually implement the game plan.
