I think for the effort, and miles he puts in a life time membership should be awarded. Just hope he had a good colletion of CD's to listen too (apart from our Cheer Cheer CD of course) on the way over.
    AAA+ for effort.

And to the cheer squad and all the members going over "to the west" have a safe trip and a great day tomorrow.

    cheers
    Alex

He's doing it again for round 17 (via Geelong for for round 16)!!

Man, and he does this all by himself???

      He is amazing!

I agree, the club should give him something for being so loyal and keen (and, maybe, slightly mad). Good on him.

Hey, maybe he could get a spot on Getaway, or the Great Outdoors. That could pay for his adventures!

I know - a truely amazing effort - I go mad driving on my own to Newcastle - let alone Perth!!!

Good idea about the travel shows - perhaps we could get an RWO letter happening and suggest it to the Teve people!

            Made it to Perth!

Peter has kindly brought all the flags over in his car, but he wants to catch the train to the game tomorrow, so I have just called the Britannia Youth Hostel to leave a message so that I can have the flags picked up from before I arrive tonight. Yes, there is a Mr P Hatley in one of the private rooms.

So he has made it to Perth in one piece! HE'S ALIVE! HE'S ALIVE!!!! (And probably covered in locusts too )

I cannot believe that I will be in PERTH TONIGHT!!!!! This is as far as you can go as an AFL fan, so in some respects I see it is some sort of final fronteer.

I'm warming to things. Last week is the past, we have Goodesy in the ruck, the weather should be good, we have a big ground, and really little to lose.

            GO GET EM SWANNIES!!!!!

Have a great time at the game tomorrow Julian - and everyone else that has flown, driven or walked to WA for the game. We'll be channelling our pro-Swans cheers through you.

And don't forget to pack whatever wet weather gear will ensure that the game stays dry.

And that Des Lee does NOT make it inside the ground!

No Des is quite OK outside Victoria, he is banned only from grounds in Victoria. If I was going over on the other hand...........

Well G'day all! Thanks for all the support (and madness suggestions - I agree!).

Re: The game - hmmm our skills suck. Again. Or still?

Re: The ground. Great ground for footy. A shame the big screen is obscured by sunlight and them small screen, in the shade, is too small to watch properly. Would be terriffic at night!

Re: The crowd. Crap. The only thing missing was American accents. It made a Crows home game look like a real football crowd!

Re: The trip. Great. So much to see. And no the highway does NOT go through the desert/sand etc. That is the railway route (400km north). It hugs the coast, in places only 100m from the 90m sheer cliffs.

Oh, by the way, if you reckon I'm mad, check out THIS LINK

The lookouts on the cliffs, and whale watching from late May/June to Oct are well worthwhile. I reckon everyone should do this trip once in their lifetime.

Anyway, off sightseeing around Perth this arvo, stock up for the trip back. Leaving 6am Monday, ETA Sydney Fri night (allowing an extra day for the trip back due to shorter days travelling east). Nothing booked, hoping for Balladonia (where Skylab crashed in 1979) Mon night (hence early start). Didn't get there on Wed, stopped 186km short @ sunset (Caiguna).

BTW - Quiz Question ... How many timezones from Sydney to Perth in Winter? What are they?

                        scroll down

                        further

                        further

                        Answer:

4 ... Eastern (AEST), Central (AEST+30mins=SthAust), "unnamed" (Central+45mins= WA/SA border to just before Caiguna) and Western (AEST+2hrs). Bet you didn't know about the Central+45min time zone! It is only from the coast up to the highway, possibly the railway (not sure on that one). It is to break up the 90min (2.5hr in summer) difference between SA & WA.

Cya all @ SCG next week!

Good to hear you enjoyed the trip. I did it with the family over 20 yrs ago, actually had my first driving lesson along there.

It is an awesome place along the coast.

The Eagles' crowd is the land of the plastic people. Their club has been around for how long, yet they still have the words to it on the screen. They have taped cheering which had us all rolling our eyes. "SGIO, GO EAGLES GO!"

The locals were a lot warner than I'm used to in stadia in SA, Qld and Victoria. Most felt sorry for us and congratulated us on a good game, which was nice. I think they like us over there.
