    Buchanan thread

I was impressed with the kids desire that shone above some of the more credentialed team mates. Sure he turned a couple over, but on each occasion he followed up with tackles, pressure, etc.

If a few took a leaf out of his book we would be back to the team we were last year.

When he did the smother that led to Pebbles' goal I thought that we were in for a fabulous afternoon......

I've got a lot of time for Monty.

He played extremely well in that he did the 1 percenters which the rest of the team failed to do.

Sitting next to his Mother at Optus oval for the praccy match she seemed to think he wouldnt make it but I firmly believe he should be on the list.

That's very harsh when your mum thinks you can't make it!

Great tackling and smothering, he definitely stood out when most of the rest of the midfield seemed to be flat. Would love to see him get a run in the next few weeks.

I think he realises that Schneiders injury is his chance and he's trying to grab it with both hands. He just seemed to be playing with a bit more edge, when comparing him to how he's played in the ressies lately. I was impressed with that side of his play.

His smother was great, and that tackle he laid after getting a boot in the head, was a terrific effort.

The effort was certainly there to try and make a himself known in the time he was on the ground.

Maybe we've found the problem - their mums have told them to play it safe. So they'll only take risks now that Mothers' Day is behind us?

I'm not questioning his endeavour. Just I have concern over his decision-making ability (ie the speed in which he decides to move the ball on). And greater concern about his ability to send off a perfect drop punt in the direction it is intended.

I hope I'm wrong. But I feel that he will not be the replacement for Schneider and will be caught out at AFL level.

That would be a shame. As I hear he is a nice bloke.

Decision-making is not something you expect to be perfect in an 8-gamer.

Occasionally people appear to underestimate how important every game is when a player is just starting out. To put it into relative terms, in four weeks Buchanan will hopefully have 50% more experience than he does now. If we make the finals and he holds his spot throughout the season, his games tally could triple by the end of the year.

That has to have an effect on things like decision-making and confidence.

will we end up with two double-ups???

schneider = buchanan; rotate the two of them from the FP through the middle

fixter = bevan; rotate the two of them from the BP through the middle and may be a tagging role

                      Q.E.D.

one thing about buchanan that im impressed with is how chunky he has become in his upper body without losing any foot speed, that is how schneider should end up looking like as well

when was the last game he played in the seniors?

i have high hopes for him anyhow...

and we already have fosdike = mcveigh. Have all three doubles in there and we may confuse the opposition into picking up the wrong players!

With all these double-ups, we could have maybe 8 guys on the bench swapping with their exact double hoping that the opposition or the umps dont realise!
