    Goodes Ruckman

For all those who wanted Goodes in the ruck more often, have a good look at the tape of his knee being crunched by a giant!

When I saw Goodes step up the opening ruck I thought it was bad move, it was.

Goodes needs to find his position, it is NOT opening ruck IMO.

He should be used after Doyle and/or Ball get first crack at softening up the opposition ruckmen. With his endurance and athleticism, I think it would be best to give him time in the ruck at least halfway after each quarter.

Right on, I have to say against Cox this was ordinary coaching..

So just where do you think we should play him then. He doesn't cut it as a forward and as a defender other teams would do to him, what they do to Leo now. We need his drive around the ground, to do that he has to be either a ruckman or a midfielder. Today was just plain unlucky.

I've been saying for months that he should be the ruck rover, doing rucking around the ground, not at centre bounce as that's where ruckman are often injured, particularly when crashing into much bigger guys. And what happens today...

Yet no problem with him doing it last year. Yes it is a risk to play him in the ruck and today that risk didn't pay off, but we can't turn around and say he should be used in the ruck after calling for him to be there for the last few weeks and praising him all last season for the work he did. He was plain unlucky.

No, but my point is that he really should not be used much in the centre square. I agree that it was definitely unlucky, particularly as he has not been used in the centre square so much this year, and not really Roos' fault Ialthough I have to wonder about using Goodes against Cox), however the more he is used in the centre, the more chance of it happening.

Should be ruck rover, not ruckman.

And I know he won't get the kudos here for it, but Saddo didn't take a backwards step when he had to ruck.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I thought Saddo rucked alright for the short time he was there.

If it was not for Saddo we could have got flogged, managed to compete at the centre bounces and got a bit of the footy around the ground.

It at least allowed Ball to get a rest during the game.
