    Doyle to thrive

I'm willing to stick my neck out and say that Doyle will thrive in the next couple of weeks, if given the responsibility as a key ruckman and 'resting' key forward around the goal square.

I feel this will be the upside of Goodes' injury.

I still think Doyle has tremendous potential in the ruck and in contested marking situations around the ground, if we play with the right game plan. IMO our short chipping to quick leads does not suit him and hence he has struggled thus far in 2004.

    Good luck Doyley!

I couldn't agree more - when Goodesy and Doyle were serving their apprenticeship in the secoonds, under the Eade coaching - I rated Doyley higher than Adam - Both were most likely to get a game - So perhaps now is the time....

Doyle is still very young in ruck terms, and has missed a bit with injury. Just looking at that goal early in the season where he had a shot with one foot caught the rebound then kicked the goal with the other foot is a tremendous effort for a big guy.

He needs a long spell in the team rucking and resting forward

I too have been very surprised how quickly how some want to write him off!

I am certain, if he stays fit, that he would be very much more highly rated in the open market than he appears to be on this site.

Well, I seem to recall one Adam Goodes thriving when he had to take over from the injured Stafford!

He's been rucking pretty well and was unlucky to get dropped on the weekend IMO.
Just needs to co-ordinate with the midfield a bit more to get the most out of his tap work.

I hope you're right because if the coaching staff haven't asked for a big effort for the rest of the year I would be very surprised.

I think Horse is the Ruck Coach these days and I hope he has Bally teaching Doyley how to ruck and Doyley teaching Bally how to kick!

Doyle is a very talented footballer for such a big man, but we may never see the best of him unless his body holds up.

At the moment, he is still desperately short of match fitness, and needs as much ground time as possible, which may be part of the reason why he was dropped last week.

I guess he'll be getting lots more ground time now that Goodes is injured - although I must admit, I'll be surprised if Goodes is out for more than a couple of weeks.

Well then no wonder our ruckman are crap. Longmire was a full forward not a ruckman.

Just quietly I don't rate him as a coach of any standing at all. At least he would be more useful coaching the forward line or something.

                  But ruckmen?

JF, Longmire used to ruck regulary for the Kangaroos, he was there pinch hitter espically in the latter years.

Yeah I have been surprised that people have written Doyle off so soon.

He needs a good run injury-free in the seniors to develop, and should now hopefully get that with Goodes out of the ruck for good.

Could be a big improver for the next 6-10 rounds.
