    the umpring again.

some of the umpiring was again disgraceful, Ryan O'Keefe almost had his head taken off, the umpire was ingoring it and no free kick, Goodes marked the ball near the goalsquare but not paid.

I thought the umpiring was okay.

The Goodes 'mark' was correct - the ball hit the ground.

Did it? From where I saw it, it looked as if it didn't touch.

Funny that it should have been "play on" but couldn't be as every player in the 50 had stopped as they thought Goodes had the mark so the umpire had to do a ball up instead.

The ABC radio said the Hawks were robbed anyway as Spider took that last mark inside the field of play but it was paid as a behind.

I thought they got some easy decisions and we didn't. Nice that the Hawks and umps colours matched. But we just have to get wins even when the umpiring isn't going our way.

Having seen the replay, I think the decision against Goodes was fair. Other decisions were less good. Jude made some strong tackles that I think should have been awarded for him. We could be missing a few heads after some tackles against us. But probably those get balanced.

Yes, he made at least one good tackle on Mitchell in the last quarter we should have received a free for, and Brereton commented that we should.

It was very clear from the replay angle on the TV.

Well the replay on Fox of the second half of the third quarter and the last quarter. They also advertised the full replay would start at 8.30pm, but now it's supposed to be 11.30pm. Damn.

Hmmm ... I won't comment on my technical inabilities where VCRs are concerned! I thought you needed children to program those, and I don't have children .... just Swans and cats. (no, ignore the "just" make it "better that it is")

Turned to the screen for the replay as soon as it happened, and yes, the ball did pop out just long enough to hit the ground.

Thought the umpiring was generally pretty good. There will always be contentious decisions, but nothing that stood out as blatantly incorrect/missed/soft etc.

As for Spider's mark - it was a 2-grab effort, the first was inside the field of play, the 2nd was over the line. As he did not have full control of the ball in the field of play, the behind was correctly awarded.

What was the go with the ball up in the last quarter that 2 Hawks knocked over on the full? Goodesy rightfully grabbed the ball for the free which should have been paid. The umpires were ok, but seemed soft in the last few minutes when the pressure was on.

I think that was because it was from a ball-up and not a throw-in. If it goes OOBOTF directly from a throw-in, that's a free kick, but to my knowledge, there is no rule concerning ball-ups.

I thought the umps were generally OK today. They missed a couple of things for us, but they also missed a couple of things for the Hawks, esp the mark that wasn't paid near their goal and ended up with Crouch goaling for us. It evened out over the match, and as Dermy said, the right side won.

Yeah, the commentators were a bit confused at first, but then they realised it was a ball up and not a throw in. Adam needs to brush up on the rules it seems.

I'm just glad we didnt really get a rough go. I reckon we all would have been furious if we had been supporting the Hawks yesterday. I think they would have plenty to complain about today regarding the umpires.
