    Two more things about yesterday

    1) Ryan O'Keefe again showed we would be even more up s..t creek without him.

2a) Brett Kirk is a tackling machine. Eight more yesterday and is the leading tackler by that margin.

2b) How is this for a quirk of nature - Kirk was on Sam Mitchell the whole game and the two are the highest possession winners for their two teams - how does that happen?

ROK has really stepped up this year to play consistent football. Showing his value as a flanker and will definitely cause headaches for opposition defences when we have our full lineup on the field - imagine having to cover Hall, O'Loughlin, Davis and then Schneider and O'Keefe as forwards 4 and 5.

Kirk has shown that he can get a hell of a lot of ball this year while still tying up opponents and has really added that new dimension to his game. As for the possession count, it is unusual when they were playing quite close - sometimes you will see 2 high posession counts from direct opponents, but that is sually when they are both playing as offensive players only, without the instruction to be accountable for their direct opponent.

On a separate tackling note - Lenny Hayes - 13 tackles yesterday v West Coast. That is just mind boggling.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

We could just have Brett and Lenny doing World Championship Tackling on the sidelines and the rest of them could get on with the game?

While on stats, Bazza is still in the leader group for goals but Gehrig is a long way ahead of the rest of them. Just think how Bazza would be going if he could kick straight this year!

Bugger, Bazza is behind there, too. Gehrig is 41/24 and Hall is 30/17. That's a percentage of 59 for Gehrig and 57 for Hall.

Yes - but Gehrig is playing more or less in the goalsquare for the top team in the league, and Baz is playing at CHF in a team that is mid-table because it has delivery problems.

Baz is playing better footy at the moment. That's not a criticism of Gehrig, who looks like kicking 100 goals this year. For Hall to have 30 goals from 9 games playing at CHF... they're numbers that Carey would have been satisfied with at his prime.

30.17 is a fairly decent return (64%) - it's similar to what he has kicked in the previous two years in terms of accuracy (65% and 64%). It's much the same as Gehrig (63%), Neitz (64%) and Tredrea (65%), and slightly less accurate than Lloyd (68%) and Fevola (66%).

I think Bazza's goal kicking standard has dropped a bit but his marking and running into a good lead is infinitely better. Last year, from necessity, he was kicking lots of amazing goals from on the 50. This year his accuracy is similar but he has a lot more shots from better angles.

Of course, you're right that Bazza getting so many goals when he is roaming as far as he does is great. I'm getting used to seeing him take a mark around the midfield, kick to another marking Swan then run back to the goal square and wait for the kick to come his way. I guess it's a development of his attempt last year to deliver a high kick to himself?

That is pretty much what I think, which is why I got into an argument yesterday with some trollop proporting to be a Swans supporter, who was saying that Barry is a lazy pig and that she couldn't stand him.

I told her she had no idea and couldn't possibly be a true Swans supporter and it went on from there...

It's hard enough battling with opposition fans let alone ones that are meant to be on your side!
