    injuries Injuries INJURIES! Injuries

If you take http://injuryupdate.com.au as a better guide than club sites, the number out for the different teams at present the table reads:

    Adelaide Crows - 6
    Brisbane Lions - 10
    Carlton Blues - 8
    Collingwood Magpies - 7
    Essendon Bombers - 6
    Fremantle Dockers - 1
    Geelong Cats - 3
    Hawthorn Hawks - 7
    Kangaroos - 3
    Melbourne Demons - 5
    Port Adelaide Power - 12
    Richmond Tigers - 6
    St. Kilda Saints - 4
    Sydney Swans - 9
    West Coast Eagles - 5
    Western Bulldogs - 4

The Swans come third behind the Lions and Port! Freo, Cats and Roos are doing best. Bear that in mind when suggesting Roos makes team changes. I woner how much the competition will change when some of the injured players come back?

Was this week the first that no Swan was injured in the game?

Thos sort of injury stats are pretty meaningless.

Of our 9 injured players Goodes played and only Schneider, Davis and Schauble would be in our best 22.

So we really had 3 players out -- although some of those outside the 22 might have been candidates to fill those three's spots so its hard to judge.

Anyway I doubt we've got worse injury problems than most clubs.

You have only to look at the calibre of players out of Brisbane's and Port's side to see that we are clearly in better shape injury-wise. But they are both 2 games ahead of us, so what does that tell us about depth? Maybe nothing - just that their players are in better form than ours.

I don't think there's any doubt that Brisbane and Port have amazing depth in their squads. That's part of what has made them so good over the past few years.

Sydney and Collingwood, on the other hand, will struggle unless they can get close to their best 22 out on the ground.

I think we've been harder hit by having to play players (again due to a lack of depth) who should probably not have been out there, rather than giving them time off to recover properly. Davis, Kennelly and Maxfield are the three that stand out.

I guess that would make playing a little difficult!!

Evidently LRT's thumb was so badly broken, it had to be partially reconstructed. Looks like he could be out for several weeks.

This is probably a stupid question... but players with hamstring strains do they still train with the rest of the group and take it easy, or do they sit on the sidelines for however many weeks? I'm assuming they still train, outherwise their fitness would drop.

Not a stupid question. Depending on their stage of recovery, you'll find they might join the warm up (minus any heavy running) of the main group and any stationary drills, then possibly just a few slow laps.

Outside of main training they'll be doing more cross training than the main squad, stuff like swimming, weights, maybe bike work, anything that doesn't put any stress on their injury, that can try and maintain their level of fitness attained during the pre-season.
