Buchanan, even though he would hardly be classed as a marking forward, would he?

Maybe put Ball down there for most of the game. He CAN take a mark up forward (his kicking, well he is a ruckman, OK )

I'd like to try Goodesey on Gehrig. Do you all think that would be too much of a risk? Otherwise what options do we have?

I think it would be a waste of Goodes and would not necessarily play to his strengths. He played very very loosely on Rawlings - at times he was so far up the ground it was easy to forget he was meant to be in defence. He won't get away with that if he is forced to stay home and look after Gehrig.

I know I'm repeating myself a bit, but I reckon James is the go. With Saddo out, another tallish player wouldn't go amiss and James' performances in the seniors this year have been creditable. With Goodes roaming around the backline, he should have more confidence to back his jump, and is capable of running off Gehrig if the opportunities present. Even if Gehrig kicks 4 or 5 on him it won't be a disaster so long as the rest of the defence is holding up.

That leaves Bolton to play tight on one of their other tall forwards, Bevan to take Milne or Guerra, and Barry, Kennelly and Goodes to attack from defence. If the Swans compromise their drive from defence they will lose this game.

That drives me nuts Lizz. We take a mark 15-30 metres out and seem to always want to fire off a pass away to another forward. I think it was Buchanan who did this on Saturday night. Often all this results in is that the short passes we fire off are either under pressure, put the receivers under pressure, or are not 15 metres, meaning that the receiver has to play on. Generally as was the case with Barry in the third quarter in Perth, they muff their shot. We simply cannot afford to do this against a side as clinical as St Kilda.

My point is that all AFL footballers should able to kick for goal from inside the 45. Especially when inside 25, as the SCG has no pockets at all. Bugger the fact that another player may have a "better percentage shot". Maybe a few of our players need to be a tad greedier. I'm sure most of you will agree that from a set shot, even from an angle, most AFL footballers are far more reliable than from under pressure playing on.
