    Number 14

How long is number 14 retired for? richmond are using 17 for all captains.. i reckon we could use 14 for the same given skilton and kelly both wore it. It would honour them that way.. does anyone know the current plans with it?

That is the only way 14 will remain special, if a Joe Blow happens to get it and turns into a star.
Keep it for the stars only and it becomes meaningless IMO

i guess... i just think that skilton and kelly would be arguably the two greatest players and leaders at the club. Both captained sydney and were the two best captains in my opinion and from asking others. So why not do everything to ensure it remains a number worn only by stars?

tho i can see your point. it would be a treat for a young player to be given 14, if someone comes next year and the club gives them 14 may be very inspirational to them

yep, and that's what makes the jumper special.
Have to be careful to choose a player who would not put too much pressure on himself for being in it though.
I would love to see the number 14 out on the field right now.

Not saying it will never happen .. but look at the Ablett saga years after he was a champ, and the problems that has ensued from it. Debate rages about his inclusion in the Legends List. Everyone clearly recognises his immense contribution to the game, but are ill at ease with recent events.

In the good old days, Aussie Post would never put a persons face on a stamp while they were alive, the reasoning being that they'd wait to see if they died with a clean record. I guess that was well and truly - LAST CENTURY.

If Bevan plays every game this year (ie his form and intensity don't drop) AND his disposal shows improvement (ie he is a player who will keep learning and keep getting better) then I nominate him for the #14..

                    1) Tough
                    2) Does it under adversity (ie lack of God given skill)
                    3) From Sydney
                    4) Determined, "Never Say Die," attitude.
                    5) Wouldn't be burdening an unplayed high draft pick player with unrealistic expectations. It say "Bevansy the way you are already playing personifies the #14. You don't have to change or prove anything. Go out and enjoy yourself and fly the flag for N.S.W. players."

BTW, Bevansy, if you ar your friends are reading this. you're not perfect, yet. can I suggest you sart with NOT JUMPING ON THE BACK OF A BLOKE ON THE GROUND IN THEIR FORWARD 50! that's as good as kicking a couple of goals yourself.

I don't believe that No. 14 should ever return. It has been worn by the two greatest Swannies of all time and because of this should be retired for good in reverence to these two champions.

The number 14 should return, but it will be hard for the kid who gets it to live up to the expectations. I know that if I was good enough to play I wouldn't want to have it...too much hype and pressure.

I am happy for it to be put into circulation and assigned out to a youngster. I like the idea of what Richmond do, but they came up with it first and I don't want to cheapen it for them by copying it.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I'm not sure if there are any current players who would do it the "Legendary" justice. I'd like to think Schneider could.

Surely some mediocre player has worn it in the past. So it is likely that it can happen again. Who cares, it'll make it even more special when someone brilliant ends up wearing it.
