I don't like this sort of attitude at all.

EVERY GAME is a big game. Being more psyched up for one game more than another is not good. Winning teams go into every game thinking they will win, preparing for their opponents specifics for sure, but being no less intense.

Look at the Saints this week, they called training off FFS. They've got the winning attitude that we need.

Roos said it a few weeks ago, pull out little tricks for big games might deliver a short term hit only to be followed up by a longer term low.

Don't take the eyes off creating a winning culture.

Because they were tired. Doesn't sound like winning culture intensity to me!

I bet they weren't thinking "I wonder what's on at the movies" before the Lions game.

Teams step up for the big events - that's what finals football is all about. If a team played that way every game all year, they would have no energy by finals time (as the Saints may find - and Port already have).

I had a conversation about this with cricketer/selector Bobby Simpson a few years ago - we were talking about Greg Norman. Simpson was saying that modern sports training teaches players to switch on and off - as no-one can maintain the concentration needed for today's elite sports. He said that Norman was trained to relax as he walked to his ball and only then switch on again. He said batsmen don't think cricket until the bowler begins the run in.

Good teams do the same with big events. Do you think Brisbane operated at the same intensity in the last quarter against the Swans in the 2003 PF as they did against the Aints in R15 or 16 or whenever? As Barry Hall told me afterwards "They lifted and we couldn't go with them".

For us this is a season-determining game. If the Aints lose, they remain at least two games in front. That's an advantage to us if we lift with the pressure, rather than crumble - as we did against the Pies towards the end of the H&A last year. We learned and stood up against Port in the PF last year. I hope that finals experience stands us in good stead when we play the Saints on Sunday.
