He'd need to have a ripper second half of the year. He's certainly been a good player thus far but has only started to be a stand-out in the last two or three weeks. I doubt he'd have more than three or four votes - at best - so far.
So far it's likely that Baz would have more votes than Willo. The other deserving player for us, week after week, has been Brett Kirk but what are the chances that a brilliant tagger would prevail in collecting Brownlow votes? In retrospect, about the same as the tribunal's Hall of contention, I guess.
Originally posted by Hawkeye I'm thinking of having a punt on Paul Williams for a placing in Brownlow.. 25/1.
'Tis a good punt or not?
It would not be a bad bet considering he came equal 5th or 6th in 2002 and had a slow start to the year. He won the chanel 9 player of the year beating simon black and luke darcy, and didn't poll a brownlow vote until about round 10. I would say that he would have maybe polled already in certain rounds this year.
I think it will be Jimmy Hird's turn again this year to grab another brownlow. He's paid the umps $20,000, so he has to get his money's worth!
I put my hard earned on Bazz early on and even though he has been good, he just hasn't been great enough to get the consistent stream of votes that you need to win a brownlow.
As for the Paul Williams bet...forget about it. He won't place, there are too many players out there who have had better seasons than him...you never know though, he might turn it on in the latter rounds.
though he's coming in to some good form now, he'd be starting from a fair way behind others in the comp particularly the way hall's been going.
i'd be surprised if he's got more than 6 votes at this stage.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

He was out for I think 4 games in 2002 and when you look at it he had the best avg out of the top 5 Brownlow Getters.
I think if he wasn't injured that year he would have won it.
That being said for him to win it this year he'd have to have a blinder of a 2nd half of the season - Nigel Lappin's definitely ready to join his fellow Lions player in that Brownlow club.
Originally posted by Go Swannies I thought Aker was a good bet a few weeks ago. Then add his three votes from last night.
You reckon? (about last night, that is) He was good but I'd have put Voss and Black ahead of him in the voting stakes, and possibly Lappin and Power as well.
