I actually thought LRT looked like he was just a year's experience away from being a decent contributor for us. And you have to remember that he was playing his first game straight after injury, having been out for about a month. He hadnt played a reserves game since his injury, wasnt even listed as an emergency, and found out he was playing 15 mins before the game when Doyle injured himself.

As for MJ, he's still young and raw, and 3rd/4th choice as ruckman on the list at the moment.

you are possibly right Sharpie, but i am still can't see either of these players being 'key' rucks or position players. Mind you, i think Doyle is ordinary too...
I just get peeved that they can't take un contested marks and the kicking of ,say, LRT is beyond pathetic.....and i am a great supporter of this kid seeing as he is very new to AFL.
eVERYONE LOOKS GOOD IN A WINNING TEAM BUT THEY ARE FOUND OUT WHEN THE HEADS DROP IN A LOSS SITUATION.and they are not alone...

I thought that MJ and LRT were ordinary today, but they should not be carrying the ruck, throw in Ball to lead them and they will gain experience instead of being thrashed in the ruck like today.

the big difference between us and say a brisbane like team is the gap between our best and worst... brisbane have their starting 22 and the rest seem ready and waiting

beyond our 22 is a lot of raw talent, but it simply isnt as good as some other teams... the gap between say hall, goodes and barry type players and LRT, rogers and Mj is enourmous...especially compared to the gap between say the voss, aker, lappin types and mcgrath. merrit, macdonld, hadley etc, even their rookies i saw pre season at york park were crisp and impressive

            Also our ruck
            the pecking order is

            1. Ball
            2. Doyle
            3. Mickeljohn

Now that goodes cant ruck... at brisbane they have (not sure on order

            1. Keating
            2.Charman
            3. mcdonald

their best 3 would be almost better than all of ours as good as ball is....... perhaps he is better than mcdonald but its close.. doyle and mj certaintly arent as good as the lions 3

            its our biggest weakness

Go easy on LRT, will you. First week back from 5-6 week lay-off and throwed straight to the monsters. Even Ball was not that good in his first few games.

LRT will come good. Mark my words on this. He is smart, atheletic and has a great shape for the game. Mal Michael was pretty bad 5-6 years ago. Big guys take longer to mature.

And yes, Meklejohn is a dud. Too lumbering. A smallish lumbering ruckman is liability.
