    positives from today

Bevan - This guy just keeps going from strength to strength
Powell - looked good in the last qtr, just feel he needs a bit more game time to give him time to settle

NOG - Looks good when he gets it sadly though he just doesn't get it enough maybe a run as a tagger in the middle to teach him were to run.

Micklejohn - I'm afraid he just isn't going to cut it at AFL level got monstered today

Quite frankly, I don't think there are really any positives from today's game.

Positive - We didn't get thumped by over 100 which looked like it was going to happen 5 minutes into the third quarter!

Don't agree about Mieklejohn . . . he was on a hiding to nothing today, and battled pretty well all things considered. I just wish he could take a mark . . . he seems to have absolutely zero ability in that area.

Powell was hopeless until he was moved into the back-line. I hope this has finally proven to Roos that he is a natural defender.

Why on earth wasn't McVeigh given more game time? And I wish Dempster had played . . . I was looking forward to that.

Bevan is simply the most promising first year player the Swans have found since O'Loughlin arrived. He could be anything . . . and already handles himself like a seasoned player . . . amazing composure!

The biggest positive is we now have two weeks to recover. Or as Roos said " the thought they had two byes, one today and one next week"

There were not too many winners out there today in the 1st 3 qtrs.

I have not thought much of LRT this year, and did not do much again today. But atleast he was having a go. He came out of nowhere at one stage to spoil a certian mark in front of goal. I think it was in Tredea. Showed a bit of courage there.

            My Final Positive.....

The Umpires are positively against us. Bevans mark (Play on)
B2 hoding the man after a mark ( He played on definely).

And Hall got 3 frees to 1. This just proves they did have a crap day. They obviously forgot that Hall gets no frees.

Agree with pretty much all of that. Bevan certainly has been a revelation. Whether he can improve much, I'm not sure. You'd think more experience would give him more composure but he already plays as if he's been out there for several seasons. His disposal may get better, but it has already improved out of sight since the opening few games of the year.

I think the "respectable" final score is a small positive. Early in the third term I expected it to blow out to over 150 point margin. I know the Power took their foot off the pedal in the final term, but the Swans guys still had to keep running and chasing and they mostly did that. Maxfield, in particularly, had a pretty awesome game considering what was going on around him.

Well, it struck me 3 or 4 weeks ago that Bevan could develop into Reggi's fat-arsed ball-winner that we so desperately need.

And every game since then the idea has seemed more and more possible?

I'm hoping that, when Fixter comes back, Bevan will be regularly included in the on-ball rotations, and then we might really have our eyes opened . . . .

I thought we could go for the double-century hiding at one stage. At least we made it look a little more respectable than I was fearing.

                    Other positives:

                    - Bevan (for reasons people have already mentioned)
                    - Powell seems like a tough nut. Don't know what will happen to him from here, but he has some grunt!
                    - Jooba having a good game when the team was having a bad one (don't know if that makes sense, but he wasn't relying on others to play well)
                    - We've injured just about everything that could be injured, and hopefully the tide has turned.
                    - Monty was good, once again. Shame about the hammy.

I'd like to see him stay down back at least for the rest of this season. It's probably the part of the ground where having stability in playing personnel probably counts the most and he's slotted in there amazingly well. I think it is also where his composure is most telling.

It would be a tough ask to bring Fixter straight back in to a disrupted defence and expect him to do as well as Bevan's done this year. In fact, with Monty now added to the injury heap and Schneids still a few weeks away, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Fixter brought in to play the small forward role for a few weeks, giving him the odd run on the ball to get his legs moving.

I know he's played most of his footy elsewhere on the ground but I'm sure none of us has forgotten his performance a couple of years back against the Roos when he acted as a very effective foil to O'Keefe.

Monty is the one I'd hoped would gradually get more time on the ball. His clearance ability has been quite exceptional since his rebirth. He got the Swans' first centre clearance today and it was a beauty (and I think led straight to a goal).

I'd say since Schneider, but thats just IMHO.

You cannot write off a young ruckman after (is it) 6 games, especially when we get monstered against a tough outfit. How many times must we say it, ruck can take 5 years to mature/learn their craft it is far too early to write of M-J or Doyle for that matter!

On the positive side. Bevan is terribly hard at the ball and is coming along well. How hard at the ball is he? Ablett played the best quarter of football (last) since he's played firsts. Powell showed something in the last quarter. Meiklejohn scored 50% of the hitouts but did nothing else.

This game was a terrific opportunity to play Dempster and THewlis. Davis shouldn't have played.

Davis BOG in reserves is a good sign.
