Hehehe, seen many other quotes from him too, so it's nothing special to be honest. Funnily enough though, they don't even make a point of letting us know the latest info is being released, it just comes out in a newspaper article and its like "oh, the latest info is out".

He may go on about the salary cap...but again he works for collingwood..
who cares if he calls the magpie games??? tim lane goes for carlton, anthony hudson for geelong? i mean who cares?? former players call their clubs...
its makes it good when collingwood lose
he is good on the footy show.!
Tim Lane, Huddo, even Dermie don't sound biased. He should NOT call Pies matches. HOWEVER I agree with everything else said here.

I have the utmost respect for Eddie, and what h's done for his club. He loves his club, and has turned them around from an almost-bankrupt rabble (with more factions than the ALP) to one of the most profesisonal clubs in the competition (both on and off the field by hiring Malthouse and providing stability).

And re: the salary cap - I make no secret of the fact that I believe the current situation (as I believe it to work) is WRONG. I agree that there should be a cost-of-living allowance, however currently it is added to our salary cap. ie we get an extra $600,000 to spend wherevr we like. If that means an extra star instead of a kid, then we can. THAT IS WRONG. That is NOT a cost-of-living allowance. That is a "performance-enhancement".

If it truly is a cost of living allowance, then firstly it should be for ALL clubs (based on ABS figures). Melbourne is more expensive than Perth or Adelaide - why aren't Vic clubs helped also? Secondly, it should be for ALL players in the club. To do this, we wouldhave the SAME salary cap as other clubs, but then every player would receive a 10% bonus on top of their contract. Example, a Barry Hall on $550,000 (within our salary cap) would receive $605,000. Also a kis drafted onto a $40,000 "standard" contract would receive $44,000. THAT is a cost of living allowance. Currently Barry Hall (as the example) is the extra star player we get for our $600,000 and the kid is on $40,000 (thesame as a kid in Perth, paying a third the rent etc ours does).

I know I might be branded a traitor, but look at it from a fairness point of view. Can you honestly say the current situation is fair and equitable? Is it the best way? Or just the "best for Sydney"? If the answer is the latter, then it isn't fair.

Before you attack me, remember we are all entitled to our opinion (that's why the ANZAC's fought - so we can voice our opinion freely!).

Regardless of the above - I hope we kick their arse back to Melbourne in 10 days time!

Eddie is great at what he does. He's driven and tireless, and I'd like to bet a few teams in the AFL would love to have him as their President.

Your criteria would never work. How can you value a player to an accuracy within 10%. eg Say B.Hall earns $700,000 now. Under your criteria the swans would simply say his value is $630,000, add 10% = same as now.

I think its far better for the swans to spend the extra 10% as they please. If they decide to go after a big signing way above market price, then they risk loosing other players who wont be getting the 10% over what they could get at home.

Anyway, the ANZAC's fought because the British told us too.

Last time I heard Eddie talking about salary caps he conceded that Sydney might have a case for cost of living and he has no argument with that. He is dirty on Brisbane though because theirs is for retention and there is no evidence that they are hurt more than other clubs in this regard. Lots of teams have lost homesick players in recent years. Brisbane has been well compensated for any loss. And if players are taking cuts because they don't want to leave, where is the case for retention?

i agree with the principles of your ideas and thats what eddie basically said when asked about it on talking footy last year... spread the living allowance over the team and not just use it as extra money....

agreed perhaps eddie is a more biasd commentator but do you personally care if he commentates collingwood?? i dont see what it matters..... there are worse commentators like brian taylor
