    Paul Bryce

Anyone happen to remember this player? He came across from Melbourne and played for us in 1993. He actually seemed to do quite well, playing 17 games, scoring fourteen goals and averaging nearly 6 marks and 15 possessions a game playing everywhere from ruck to centre half forward to full back.

However, not only did he apparently leave the Swans at the end of the year, he wasn't on ANY team's list after that - despite being 25 in 1993!

    Put simply, what happened?

I remember that Paul Bryce won our best player award for the game against Melbourne in 1993 where we finally broke our looooooong losing streak. Before the game, Neil Balme (then Melbourne?s coach) described Bryce as the ?worst player in the worst team in the competition?; naturally Sydney won and Bryce was BOG.

At the after-match function in the old Moore Park Bowling Club, Bryce recalled Balme?s earlier statement and during his speech accepting his BOG award, Bryce said; ?well we certainly shoved it up his arse today?.

Of course the whole joint erupted!

He was BoG in a game in which Osborne kicked 10? That's mighty impressive. Nice story.

I'm just looking through his stats, and just from a random sample of three games there's 20 touches and 10 marks against Adelaide, 12 touches and 8 marks against Collingwood and 18 touches, 9 marks and 2 goals against Hawthorn. Those are from the middle of the season, so either he picked up hugely over the year or Balme was way off...

That could describe anyone from O'Loughlin to James to Barry to Ball - all of whom have been given far more than 1 season. I just can't understand why they'd let him go, especially after he played 17 (so clearly wasn't too badly hit with injuries).

Paul Bryce was a tallish player with a chronic, hip back or knee (PERHAPS ALL OF THE ABOVE) AND RETIRED WHEN HE LEFT US, THROUGH INJURY.

              Donners,

Where are you looking at the stats ?

I would be keen to use that site.

              Cheers
