I was really hoping the now doomed 50,000 seat, Telstra Dome copy, all purpose stadium at Liverpool would make it. (It would have if the SMH hadn't investigated those slight Bulldog breaches lol), that would have given us three brilliant grounds to possibly use and in turn use the three grounds against each other to get great deals perhaps.

Rugby League yes - Souths V St.George, they do it once a year now. It is a traditional ground for league - all grand finals were played there until 1988 when they moved next door to the then new SFS.

(MY league loving friends get very annoyed at us southerners that refer to both codes generally as Rugby lol)

I must admit, I get confused until I listen to what's being said.

To most of us who grew up in Sydney, Rugby League is League Rugby Union is Union or Ra Ra and unfortunately Aussie Rules is still called Aerial pingpong by many.

Ahhhh. I do miss Sydney sometimes. I haven't heard Ra Ra for such a long time.

Also Union has always been an inner city/northern suburbs sport, where as league covers mainly the southern Western suburbs.

Then the dropped AFL right in the middle of those two regions.

No wonder it struggled for so long.

I gather in the early seventies, when John Northey Captain Coached Wests, the SFL was on the ABC each week and the Grand Final attracted 20000 plus! Anyone remember that or can confirm?

ABC Sat 6pm had replay of the Game of the day.

Its funny back in the 80's everyone followed the league, but the game only ever attracted small crowds, yet Free-to Air TV had 2 games per weekend.

What were all those followers doing when their team was playing?

Like me, I was probably on the golf course with a radio stuck in my ear.
