    Teams Out

Inclusions shown on Channel 10, so I'm surmising the positions.

    Backs: J. Crouch C. Bolton P. Bevan

Half Backs: L. Barry A. Goodes T. Kennelly

    Centre: S. Maxfield P. Williams B. Mathews

    Half Forwards: R. O'Keefe B. Hall J. McVeigh

    Forwards: B. Fixter, M O'Loughlin M. Nicks

    Followers: J. Ball, J. Bolton, B. Kirk,

    Interchange: S. Doyle, L. Ablett , L. Roberts-Thomson, J. Thewlis

    Emergencies: S. Dempster, M. Powell, H. James

Well, well....LRT gets the nod over Powell and James

Plus Roosey has kept the size balance by going with Thewlis as well.

So big congratulations to Josh on his first game (hopefully in front of 60,000) as well as huge congratulations to Benny Fixtersey coming back in.

So it's Davis, Fosdike, James, Powell, Buchanan and Meiklejohn out?

Jeez... Heath can consider himself hard done by.

Roos state explicitly that he is going to give Thewlis and Dempster some games before the end of season. So we would expect to see Dempster to debut sometime very soon

Looks like Thewlis jumped in front of Dempster who was close for a couple of weeks. Has his form in the reserves justified his selection? Where do you think he will play in the side?

Looking forward to Thewlis playing... I've never seen him in action.

What can we corrupt 'Thewlis' to?

I was very lukewarm on Thewlis after seeing him play some early reserves games this year but the last two I've watched he's been pretty impressive - and certainly more dominant than Dempster.

Thewlis is a strongly built player who likes to barge through contests and hoof the ball, from what I've seen. What he lacks in finesse he makes up for in vigour. I doubt that "classy" is ever a word that will be used to describe him but he could become something of an enforcer in the team, so long as he remains disciplined (which was one of my reservations about him). He's not tall enough to play a KPP and probably not quick enough to be a true wingman. Off the top of my head, the best comparison I can think of in terms of "type" of player is Dean Solomon - though at this early stage I am not about to guess whether he will ever become as accomplished as Solomon.

Since he is likely to be played on and off the bench early in his career his "position" will almost certainly be "utility".

                    Correct again, Lizz!

                    From sydneyswans.com.au:

The only one of the Swans? quartet of the choices from the 2002 National AFL Draft who had to battle injury last year. The solidly built utility was having an impressive development year in the reserves until a groin injury ended his season in July. Has neat skills and is a good mark for his size.

That may make it tough in a year or two if we have Josh Willoughby out there too, especially if Willo is still running around.

It'll become almost as confusing as having Schneider, Buchanan & Fixter in the same team, and Hall kicking to Ball, while B1 & B2 slip on their pyjamas.

McVeigh to McVeigh, the two Adams in midfield.

that reminds me of the first time I heard them call to Josh Willoughby. They called him Willo, and I was jogged out of my Sunday morning haze trying to find Willo Snr on the field.

had a giggle at myself and then tried to think of what you'd call a little Willo and came up with shrub, bush or sapling, none of which really fit I guess.
