    UMPs

I know it's not fashionable to bag the girls in Orange after a win, however like all one-eyed types, I reckon there was a heavy emphasis on making sure the away team wasn't disadvantaged.

Goldspink again? Another fine performance. Starting to get a reputation like Bill Harrogan or Alan Jones or even Ray Martin for leaching off the true contest for self-promotion!

Something really needs to be done about Goldspink. Maybe a mystery truck could hit him while he is crossing the road?

Honestly the day he retires the game will be better for it.

I don't care if he is one of the btter umps, but he just doesnt give us a fair go. He shouldnt allow his hatred for the swans get in the way of his job.

I thought the umps were OK.

We gave away some really dumb frees and O'Keefe's 50 metres was quite numbingly stupid.

When will the likes of J.Bolton realise you cannot drag the ball back in and sit on it. He goes for this nearly every week to the point where the umps (who do watch tapes) can't wait for him to do it. Wake up sunshine. He wasn't alone but the umps were correct in paying these decisions.

I thought the umpiring was shocking in the first quarter and then mixed for the rest of the game (as usual!).

He tends to do this yes, but there was a free paid against him (on the edge of the 50 at the right hand end as you watch it on tv) by an umpire on the blind side of the contest who couldn't see that the ball was actually pulled back in by the Collingwood tackler. If you can't see something for sure, you can't make a decision based on probability. That annoyed me.

The other thing that annoyed me was the lack of consistency of paying the soft frees, particularly in and around the 50m arcs.

I've come to the realisation though that I am getting what I wanted from the umps. They are consistently inconsistent!!!

Most of the frees against us were there, but where was the CONSISTENCY!!! Leon Davis had a shirt tugged and got a free, Tiger had that from Fraser and Fraser got a mark. Leo had a mark taken off him for a bump, SOFT!!!

I recall that one, although Bolton also tried to grab the ball as well. It's a pretty common tactic for the tackler to try to drag the ball in under his opponent and then hold it there. Doesn't help when the player on the bottom assists with this, which is what Bolton did.

I thought the free against Ball when he fell on the ball was pretty harsh.

Yep - particularly when he received head high contact on the way down in that contest.

The one against Hall was tough as well, given he had an arm pinned and didn't really have prior opportunity. At least they paid an identical one soon afterwards against Wakelin - and it was in a more damaging position for us given that it set Nicks up for a shot at goal.

The one against Bevan was pretty harsh late in the game as well - I guess the fact that two Swans were closest to the ball didn't help but within the context of the passage of play, ie Bevan having just tackled Fraser(?) to loosen the ball, it did seem tough.

However Bevan and one other Swans player were on the ground on the ball, and no Collingwood player was on them, so they had every opportunity to get the ball out, but didn't try to do so.

Speaking of trucks, to borrow a suggestion from former Manly NRL Coach Bob Fulton in a attack on the performance of referee Bill Harrigan, maybe we can get Roosy out the back to warm up a cement truck to take out Goldstink
