    Jude Bolton

Loved his work ethic. He has continued on an upwards trend over the last few games.

    Love his smothers.

Love the number of times he is able to get his hands on the ball.

Hate his disposals. He has now shown over a number of weeks he knows how to get the pill. He just uses it so poorly.

At least you can teach a guy to kick the ball better, I hope.

His hands were pretty good last night. His kicking much less so, but many of them were quick kicks out of tight defensive positions. Maybe it was a decision making issue as much as anything - ie he needs to look for a handball option in tight, rather than just bang it on the boot and hope.

IMHO his disposal over the previous three matches was fine. He did turn it over a few times last week but the whole team was under pressure and many of his disposals were fine. He has definitely improved in this department over the last few years - with a bit of a relapse at times this year.

The reckless, instinctive courage you can't teach.

Watching the replay it struck me just how many players the Swans have who regularly put their heads on the line to create a turnover. And although we were pinged several times for HOTB, there were many others where a player dived on a ball running the way of the opposition but immediately rolled off it and fed it out. Both Boltons, Bevan, Maxfield and Kirk have been doing it all year - and yesterday you could add Fixter to that list.

Bolton's courage in diving onto the ball first also won him a few free kicks last night. Also, Kennelly's running goal last night came from a Bolton clearance (handball).

Without having watched the tape yet (freakin accidently auto-recorded Channel 9's Wedding Singer), I thought Bolton was one of our best last night, clangers and all.

Totally agree!! Thought he had a fantastic game last night.
As much as some here like to fault him mercilessly at every opportunity, most of his 'clangers' happen because he is, as Liz says, trying to get the ball going our way as quickly as possible, and yeah, sometimes this doesn't work out, but at least he is getting his hands on the ball, and trying his damn hardest...

As always with Jude, you can't teach the things he exudes-courage, determination, hardness; you can with his 'faults'.

I would like to think that I dont just find fault with players all the time, that I actually give balanced thought to my posts.

As I said, I loved his work ethic, and the way he got his hands on the ball. Just his kicking let him down.

I think I am a bit negative towards Jude's game last night in the same way that for some reason I feel less enthusiastic about the win than most other people on this board at the moment.

I thought it looked like a game between two ordinary sides, and a bit disappointing considering the entire afl community would have been watching last night. At 3 quarter time, I really didnt give the swans much realistic chance because I thought the pies would come out hard thinking they had more to play for.

But good on the boys for getting up and playing a strong final term. Hopefully they can use the confidence of the win to forget about the Port game and build up some momentum over the next few weeks like they did after the Hawthorn win.

                V V V true.

I would rather see a player throwing his body on the line at every opportunity than some one standing back waiting for the magic to happen.

I agree that in skill-terms it was far from a classic. Both teams gave their all but both can also use the ball much better than they did.

But as you point out, they werecoming off that thrashing by Port, and in those circumstances you don't necessarily care how you get the points, so long as you do.

We all know that the team can play better than that. The question remains, how much better and how consistently?

Jude Bolton put his hand up last night to be traded for McVeigh.

23 posssessions, 7 clangers for goodness sake. I watched him closely and the best I can give him is 4 effective handpasses and one effective kick. The rest was rubbish.

7 clangers equals 20% of the entire sides clangers, a frightening stat.

From what I could see he was on Licuria who got almost all his possessions out on his own. Thank our lucky stars he is no champ on disposals.

All he can do at stoppages is sit on the ball, and his centre bounce work is abysmal. Noted an article last week on midfielders. He did not get a mention. Why, because he is not a midfielders boot studder.

Time to go Jude. A fit Fixter will give our midfield the much needed lift, and with Schneides back next week they must look at Bolton's value to the team, other than an article in the newsletter and his interviewing skills.

He is also very slow. Outpaced by Jason Cloke in the first quarter. Strewth that is slow.

One thing for sure is that I won't be eating any Jude Bolton humble pie again.

Yes, that was one his best every clearances - possibly because he actually kept his feet and looked around to find someone.

Lots of games are not always "pretty", and this was in mant respects a knockdown shootout. Plain and simple. Must say that Telstra is a bit iffy paddock-wise. We have a better chance of looking "good" on the SCG with its more robust surface (no bucket boy).

It's really quite obvious, Nico is CONSTANTLY harping on about Jude and has said a number of useless times we should trade him.

Get off your high horse Nico and stop ranting on about him every chance you get! You would NOT want to see what our midfield would be like if Jude wasn't there. Kel was quoted in an article (about our midfield) praising B1.

This Bolton Bashing is getting beyond a joke!
