Schauble and Schneider - What's the strategy?

    My questions are:

Who will make way for these 2?
What position will be fill in their comeback games?

IIRC, Schaubes usually plays short stints on the forward line to get his fitness to a decent level. If this happens, how long before Schaubes goes down back again and where does Goodesy go?

B2 into the midfield and Goodesy stay put?

The problem is that Schneides will take the Forward position won't he?

barring injuries, it will presumably be Thewlis and LRT

Would seem unfair to drop Thewlis after just one game. Might as well give him a run of two or three on the trot, just to get the taste of it.

I very much doubt Roos would bring Schneider and Schaubs back in the same week with neither having any match practice unless he didn't have enough other bodies to put on the ground. I would expect Schaubs and maybe Schneider too, to play at least one game in Canberra.

When they are ready, McVeigh and Ablett are obviously others than may make way. And remember that hopefully we will soon have Davis to fit in somewhere.

However, if the reports that Willo is out next week are correct, that might change things.

yeah LRT and Thewlis. Apparently Schneider is going to be back for Carlton according to SMH. It also says Fosdike is going to be back in 2 weeks as well. Selection dilemmas!

It will be interesting to see if it comes down to one of these two who they keep in the seniors. I have a lot of time for both of them, McVeigh more so... but I thought that the choice of Ablett over Stevens for the PF last year was a sign of who they were looking at to stay with the club. Obviously there is not currently any question around McVeigh, but there seem to be doubts (if only on this messageboard!) about NOG.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I really don't want to see McVeigh dropped - he seems to be developing really well and doing some smart things out there. Seems to understand what space to run into etc.

I think he is going to get very exciting in the next year or so.

              the soon to return:

              buccy
              schneider
              schauble
              davis
              fozzie

i wouldnt be surprised if buccy plays for about 3 weeks in the ressies while, as lizz stated, thewlis gets a run

i agree with the LRT for schauble call

schneids in for willo, play schneids off the bench and impact in the forward line, fixter to play back pocket and push crouch into the middle... when willo returns, i dont know!

mcveigh for davis, keep the faith with ablett yet, as ablett has less time to prove himself

fozzie for ablett, by the time fozzie is ready, ablett needs to stamp himself on the game, if he has, selection dilemma

              carlton:

              b:fixter bolton bevan
              kennelly goodes barry
              crouch kirk mathews
              ablett hall okeefe
              nicks oloughlin mcveigh
              fol:ball maxfield bolton
              int:doyle schneider schauble thewlis

schauble can be used sparingly on a resting ruckman, if not LRT will

regardless of whos in for whoever isnt it nice that we finally have to worry bout who to leave out... as opposed to wondering where we can find enough players to fill the team

                    simple answer to this.

Depends on who we are playing and who matches up the best.

The coaching staff will pick the best team to battle whichever opposition we are playing on a week to week basis.

Nice for a change to have to wonder who will be dropped to make room for players though.
A luxury we haven't had for a while through injuries, and more significantly not having much depth over the last few years.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

I would like to see Schauble 1 or 2 weeks in the seconds just the make sure he is fully over his injury. With Fevola and Whitnall out for this week, Schauble isn't really needed, so give him this week at least in the seconds and bring him back for Adelaide in place of LRT.

With Schneider I think bring him in this week and play him off the bench. When he does get on the field, its down forward. Then over the next few rounds build him up for a move back into the midfield (remember against Essendon he seemed to have a bit of an impact in there). Who he comes in for is a difficult question. I wouldn't drop Thewlis after just one match. If Willo doesn't come up, he will most likely be the replacement for him.

Things will be interesting when we get to full fitness. My Best 22 is without Amon who has been great this season, but with Fixter and Schneider back in the side, he will find it hard to get back into our best line up. Its a tough call on him, but at least we know he has a future at the club.

B: Leo Barry Andrew Schauble Craig Bolton
HB: Jared Crouch Adam Goodes Tadhg Kennelly
C: Ben Mathews Paul Williams Stuart Maxfield (c)
HF: Adam Schneider Barry Hall Ryan O'Keefe
F: Nick Davis Michael O'Loughlin Matthew Nicks
R: Jason Ball Brett Kirk Jude Bolton
Int: Nic Fosdike Paul Bevan Stephen Doyle Ben Fixter
Emg: Amon Buchanan Heath James Jarrad McVeigh
                        Once was, now elsewhere

I wonder if we're tempting fate a bit with this thread.

In addition to the long-term absences of "best 22 players" of Schneids, Schaubs, Saddo and Fixter our recent record for losing players for the following games has been:

Collingwood game - probably lost Willo (albeit with an injury he carried into the game)

Port game - lost Fozzie, Buchanan, Davis (with carried injury), would have probably lost Willo had the there not been a week off

Saints game - lost Barry, Ball, Doyle, O'Loughlin

Although we seem to be on the brink of getting important players back, there's a decent chance that more will fall by the wayside, hopefully only for short periods.

On the bright side, 'twas good to see McGlone named as BOG in the twos (though I didn't see any of the game) after a couple of "down" games for him. They wouldn't have promoted him to the senior list had they not conceived he might be selected for a senior game so it is good to see him returning to the kind of form that will see him pressing for selection if any of the midfielders sustain injuries.

Is it just me who is excited that we should have a full and fit list come finals time? If we make the eight and don't have many more injuries - we could be a good wildcard!

Am I right that if you come fifth or sixth, you get a home final?
