Interesting to read on Footystats Diary that St Kilda have had the 'easiest' run out of all 16 teams in terms of the quality of opposition.

To round 13, their opposition has averaged only 10th spot on the ladder, but the Saints have the 2nd toughest run home - against opposition currently averaging 7th spot on the ladder.

West Coast have ended up having the nightmare draw - with their whole season against opposition averaging in the top 8!

Brisbane and Geelong seem to have ended up with by far the easiest runs home. I wonder what price them to meet in the GF?

Sydney were in the worst-off group up to round 13, and the run home is slightly tougher. Makes it hard to see us as a genuine top 4 team this season.

If we win the next 2 (Carlton minus its forward line and Adelaide at home with a no-name coach) we will be 9-6, probably sitting comfortably in 5th spot.

From then on its just a matter of moving up one ladder position, and we should be nearing full strength by then.

I hold out great hope that the season is still ours for the taking.

It's interesting, a sizable 70 point win for Sydney and the losses of the Dons to the Roos, Eagles beat the Cats, Dogs do Freo (tee hee) would see us shoot to 5th this week!

would be hard to expect to win both the geelong and freo game....but we are capable of winning the next 4 and going in against brisbane 11-6

sydneys record at optus oval since 1897 is Sydney 136games 36wins 98losses and 2 draws

however since we moved to sydney we have won 6 and lost 11 at the ground against carlton

Assuming form holds I think we'll end up with 14 wins, rueing games like the Richmond one where we should've beaten them easily and which would've delivered us into the top 4. That'll give us 5th or 6th I think and a home first up elimination final.

I think we'll win the next two games but after that, it's gonna be tough. Geelong away (improving team), Freo away (always hard) and Brisbane home (big task). But we've got some players coming back from injuries so that'll make things easier for us.

Winning seven of the last nine is a big ask, given that we play Melbourne, Brisbane, Essendon, Geelong, Fremantle and the Kangaroos. If we can do it we would have beaten several other sides in the top eight and we won't be making up the numbers.

I'm hoping for a repeat of 1933's form where we won the last 11 games of the season.

If you are talking H&A games then it is already too late - only 9 games remain. If you include finals then 13 in a row is the figure we would all like to see!! "11 only" means a loss to the Crows.

If we get 14 wins we are truly motoring, to be entirely honest, I think we will struggle to get 12.

Melbourne, Geelong and Freo (still rate them, I see their last few weeks as a bit of blip) and Brissy are the keys, we need to snaffle 2 of these to get to 14. I'm disappointed the Melbourne game isn't at the 'G a big winning game there would have been great. If we can't win the rest we shouldn't be in the finals at all.

My reference to the last 11 games in 1933 wasn't so much a reference to the exact number of games that were won, but the games themselves - last 9 home and away, Second Semi, Grand Final. The 2004 equivalent from here would be a 12-game streak because of the extra final: last 9 home and away, Qualifying Final, Preliminary Final ... and Grand Final

In '33 we were 4-5, with a % of only 101.5, and then we had a couple of scratchy wins, and then we came storming home, and finished with 9 H&A games in a row, followed by the 2 finals wins.

Doesn't sound too different to this year!!

Our best recent finish of the last 9 games of the H&A was 7 wins in 1996.

The last time we equalled that finish of 7 from 9 was '45!!
