    Will Ball play next year?

    http://sydneyswans.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=157907

.. Jason Ball, may not play on next season...
I don't like the sound of this one bit. Maybe if Doyle can play the year out I will feel more comfortable, but ATM no way.

..but it would definitely be nice for ?Doyley? to give me a break every now and again," Ball said.

      It's an interesting article.

The last time that I heard Ball speak about his future, he seemed like he wanted to go on for as long as possible, (IIRC this was towards the end of last year).

I wonder what's changed. He is still clearly our No.1 ruck option, so I can't imagine that the club would be giving him the nudge.

We needed to get him when he was with the Saints, ala Plugger and Hall . Maybe if he goes to the Pies we can snavel him.

if he's feeling a little weary the best thing for him would be for Doyle to be in a position of dominance so they can share the duties, giving Ball's aging body a break. I'd be sad to see him go this year. Not just because of the predicament we'd be in, but he deserves to finish the top of the tree.

I think he needs a hug and a "we still need you Jason" kinda peep talk.

On a side note i can't imagine bally playing for the coolers now. It would just be to weird and abstract if i ever see footage.

and deservedly so, the team functions so much better when he is in the team.

Too right, if we want a premiership this year or the next, we need Bally to be firing, imagine if we had him through our September charge last season....

Hopefully Doyle will continue his development (I thought his game against the pies was really encouraging. Tap work got better as the game went on, and some decent disposals and even tackling) so that Jason won't have to carry as much load each week. If they could evenly share the rucking, surely that could extend Ball's career while he is still playing really well.

I think he might retire at the end of this year.

Why not have a crack at the young bloke Richards? He looks pretty decent!

There is no way Collingwood would part with Richards. He's one of the few bright young things they have down at Pieland at the moment. What's more, he's a ruckman and they've been crying out for a decent one of these for several years.

On Ball, I said my piece a couple of weeks ago.

I genuinely believe him playing on next year is the difference between Sydney mounting a serious challenge for the flag and not - as per the final two paragraphs in the above article.
