    Jude Bolton

I felt Jude had an excellent game and was crucial is the final moments.

His work at the stopages was excellent and his disposal was much better than last week.

Commentators were of the same opinion that he lifted at the right time.
Any chance for a consistency over all 4 quarters?

But did you see him on the Sunday footy show handball competition.
I think maybe he had a big night at the Ball!

I saw him interviewed - and something occurred to me:

I've never dated a girl who was prettier than him.

        ...although many with better disposal.

You need to get out more. Thought if that's true I can see why you don't.

Jeez, he's being tough at the ball. He was our enforcer yesterday.

One issue about Bolton is I'm not sure how well he is suited to our game plan. We really need to have an open game, moving it rapidly and finding players in space.

This requires players who can quickly get to the ball and then effectively get it out and get it moving - like Black does for Brisbane.

Bolton's preferred option however, is to dive on the ball and lock it up, sometimes getting it out, but often not that effectively because a pack situation has been created.

Therefore we get a lot of stoppages which are not really our strength or our preferred game plan.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I thought blocking it up and tackling like maniacs was our gameplan when the opposition has the ball, the handhall happy high speed play was for when we had it?

Tackling yes, but then we need to get it out to our guys in the open.

Phew, I thought for a moment you were suggesting there was no role for Jude in this team.

Not sure I get this comment. Most of the time when Jude dives on the ball it is because the ball is running to the advantage of the opposition. Surely bottling the ball up (at worst) is better than standing and watching while the opposition picks it up and runs up field.

Sometimes he manages to clear it out to advantage of a team mate. If he could do it more often - fantastic but a little unrealistic.

As someone else has already pointed out, there is little point creating open men if the opposition has the ball. First you have to win it. Jude is a critical part of the Swans plan of how to go about winning the ball.

Most of the time Bolton dives on the ball is because it is loose and a contested ball.

Surely gathering the ball cleanly and getting it to a team mate is better than forcing a ball up?

Why unrealistic - other players are more effective with their clearances.

Of course you do. But diving on a loose ball and forcing a ball up is not necessarily winning it!

Overall, I'm not saying that he doesn't get clearances or force a stoppage when the opposition has it, however his preference for diving on the ball forces stoppages at other times when we could get an advantage by getting the ball out and clear.
