Get over Adelaide's coaching change and get over it quickly. They are a good team who have been held back. There is a strong similarity between the Swans in 2002 when Roos took over and Adelaide now. Given the slightest chance they will win a lot of games.
Your job is to play hard, skilful, high scoring footy. Play defensively and you are gone.

Even if the Adelaide media seem to think we are, I think we have rarely played defensively under Roos. Sure there is a bit of chipping around. I still think the way we handball it out of defence is quite unique in the AFL.

I'm nervous about this match. The Crows have long been one of our bogey sides. With players like the freak Andrew McLeod relishing the coaching change, I'm worry that their skills may hurt us yet again.

This game will be NO percentage gainer. It is an out and out danger game, mark my words!

We have to play footy like we did in the 2nd quarter against the Blues. And not stop like we did in the 3rd.

It just depends on how we play on the day. It could be close or we could take advantage of their slow midfield and run away with it. I'm kinda ambivalent: I'm not confident that we'll win but can also see the possibility of us running away with it. If we shut them down and run the ball out fast they may not be able to catch us. I bet they are planning a close game - following the lead of the Blues and Pies - but we could have a better chance here than over the past two weeks for a rare Swans big score. It'd be nice revenge for losing the close one over there last year.

          Danger Danger Danger

          V nervous about this match.

I quite like the Crows and was happy to see them demolish the Dees last weekend, though extremely nervous about our game this week.

They have been rejuvenated with the change of coach and have been told to play with confidence; no player will be dragged off for having a go (seems strangely fimilar to Roos approach in 02).

Agree (JF) that Crows have long been our bogey team, extremely had to put away as they match up well against us.

Though it seems impossible for the Crows to make the finals they will be playing with the hope they can still make it (much like C'wood now & Hawks of 03)

          Tip: Swans by 15

Need to have a decent start to the match. For as many Crows games as I can remember we have let them dominate the first quarter, often silencing the home crowd (when in Sydney), pile on a four or five goal lead and then hang onto it. Only once (the "Jason Ball game" in Adelaide in 2001) have the Swans managed to quickly claw back the start they've given away.

Lizz, don't you think a major development of the Swans game has been that they no lomger start the game about 5-20 minutes in? Even in 2002 I was thinking that it looked like they had to learn how to play anew each week. But now they seem competitive from the word go - except for the Kangaroos game (and look how that ended up).

Slightly concerned about this game, they've been our bogey side in recent times. Biglands and Clarke had a great game against White last week, which means Ball and Doyle will have to be up to the task.

Agreed! Crows are fast out of the gate, then tend to go into cruise mode afterwards. Its preventing or limiting that start that will determine this game.

Over the past few years, not only against us, it is the trademark of the mighty Adelaide Crows to get off to a flyer, hence their losses are very embarrassing.

The losses are usually a result of big scores being pegged back... ala Carlton, Geelong, the Maggies this year and last. We almost pegged back a huge deficit last season.

Bode and Henschel just named here on radio (5AA - KG and Cornsey) as highly unlikely to play, injured ankles in both cases. Bode's loss especially weakens their midfield.

carlton found our weak point last week ie. playing man on man footy and not allowing our free flowing game to develop in the first 3 quarters
it was only our mental strength and experience (?) that got us through basically so i guess we were lucky

adelaide might play the same deal with us?

How do people/teams/coaches get away with this excuse? St Kilda are using it as the reason my team (Port obviously) won last week. Everybody plays man on man footy until a player accidentally/deliberately loses his opponent. If 18 players from Carlton 'tagged' their Swans opponents it implies that at least 10 of them are consistently better for them to win. They aren't. They weren't. But too much of that win relied on BBB Barry Hall.
Sydney when switched on are 50% better than Carlton and 25% better than Adelaide. Man on man favours you not Adelaide. They are now the team you were in late 2002. You should be better again.
Nous, aggression, determination are the things you have temporarily mislaid and need to find again. We want to meet you in the finals!

No they don't these days. Teams often play a more zoning style of game, rather than a close shoulder-to-shoulder, old fashioned match up game.
