    Judd

In an article on www.realfooty.com.au, Chris Judd has said that he'd stay in the west unless an offer of $200,000 more than his current contract came up, in which case he would consider moving.
He did say he would prefer victoria, but Sydney is reasonably close to vic, and we have the cap room.

    Worth pursuing?

He ain't going no where as all West Coast will do is pay him $700,000 a year and no club in Victoria has enough salary cap room to even consider him at $900,000 a year.

He is so good it is scary, you build a club (ala Hird, Voss & Kelly) around a player like that.

I can imagine him moving back to Victoria for $600K, so perhaps we could get him for $700K. Would certainly be worth it!! Can't hurt to try!

Although we could offer him more money as salary I think someone of Judd's ability and profile would make a stack more out of sponsorship and appearances in Melb. Our great selling point is "no one knows who you are and you can walk the streets in peace"

What would he cost us in terms of a trade. First round plus Kirk or Goodes I reckon.

Although he/we could play hard ball. If he nominated for the pre-season draft at $700k, surely no other club could afford him

This would be very interesting scenario. A club who has 500K under the cap might go for this. This means going over the cap by 200K. What would the AFL do? Excluding this club from the first two rounds of the next draft? That would seem a harsh penalty for going over the cap by just 200K. The benefit is good though. This club effectively trades the first two rounds in the next draft for Judd. Not a bad trade if you ask me.

Is there a precedence in the AFL?? I dont think so.

I thought Carlton were fined a motza and lost draft picks for going over the salary cap.Brisbane were fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for late paperwork so I think the penalty would be hefty.
But I like the way you think

If the AFL is aware of this situation (they can ask for an audit before the trade) they can refuse to register the player. If the club still contracts the player against the advice from the AFL; the player will not be allowed to play for the club BUT that players contract fees ARE counted in the club?s TPP, even though he wouldn?t be playing for them.

So if a club followed your scenario they would be paying $700,000 for a player that they cannot play, as well as being $200,000 over the cap ? which would incur sanctions (fines and/or draft exclusions) for the breach.

I don't think anyone player is worth that sort of money, it must be rembered that there are three other very good midfielders and a first rate ruckman and the no1 ruckman (when fit) around Judd so Judds job is made a little easier Iam not saying he isnt a gun player just you can't measure what effect the others have on his abillity.

Verdict: Judd would be great but is worth far to much and at his price you would struggle to fit others in and no one player can take you all the way

                          Yup.

And if Judd is deemed to be worth $700,000, what would (say) Hall and Goodes (the Brownlow form version) be worth. Would he be any more important to the team than these two. And how about the players just behind, like the top notch gorilla we want to find, or the star ruckman, not to mention a Williams, O'Loughlin etc who probably wouldn't want to play for $150k if they knew one or two players were getting 5 times as much.

I know some teams have gambled on paying huge sums to single players but in most cases it has come back to bite them on the behind.

That to me says it all.

Great player that Judd is, he aint worth 700k if Magic or Bazza or Goodes are getting less.

                            Its all about team harmony.

In my opinion if Judd is making these statements today, he is a money mercenary, and we don't want him.

You only play 700k per year to consistent 100 goal plus a year forwards!!
