50m arc back at the SCG for Saturday night

Apparently the part of the 50-metre arc that intersects the goal square will not be marked.

good news, we seemed to treat 45 like a 50 for set shots

I assume you mean centre square here?

          You are not wrong

          stupid AAP release

Gone are the 45-metre arcs introduced at the beginning of this season to allow for a five-metre increase in the goal square.

Being 148.5 metres goal-to-goal, the shortest in the league, the SCG was in the unique position of being forced to use the shorter arcs in order to avoid them intersecting the goal square

But beginning Saturday, the part of the 50-metre arc that intersects the goal square will not be marked.

ROFL ... Gosh, that's a howler. Unless they are trying to imply that the SCG is very, very small with the 50-metre arcs intersecting the goal squares at the other end!

No, it's just that we have huge goal squares to give our forwards more room to roam.

Attached is a GIF that shows what I think is happening. I have drawn the arcs in red and yellow; only the yellow portion of the arc will be painted because the red portion intersects the centre square.

Well that makes sense, nice bit of artwork too, maybe you should forward it to AAP

What would they know about AFL Cher?

One again proof that the average Sydneysider has little idea about AFL footy.

How many meters will there be between the middle of the porabola (if it in fact continued), and the edge of the center square ??

The "circle" will not intersect the centre square; it will be flat at the top of the "circle", the centre square line will for the top of the "arc".

Apparently if they were to paint the arc in full instead of stopping when they reach the edge of the square, there would be less than 1m overlap
