    Under 18 championships

Went to the Under 18 champs for the last 2 days. The best 10 I saw were Deledio (Country), Tambling (NT), Franklin (WA), Roughhead (Country), Willits (Metro), Wood (SA), Bain (Metro), Moore (Metro), Kirkby (Country), Monfries (SA). I haven't included Cloke, Morton, Smith who are all going father-son.

The best prospects Isaw from RAMS were Earl Shaw -a standout ruckman who will go round 1 or 2. After him the cupboard was bare although Ed Clarke played well but is short and thickset, Keiren Jack, an inside midfielder attacked the ball ferociously and is a prospect although small. I think he's too young. Watch for him. Others who showed promise were Kurt McGlynn, Justin Barratt (189cms), Adam Prior (188cms), James Bennett (185 cm) and Cameron Stanton (190 cm). THey rookie list possibilities.

From a Sydney viewpont looking for a KPP defender,
here are a few names to remember.
    Alan Toovey WA 189 cms
    Andrew Lee Tas 194 cms
    Chad Gibson SA 194 cms
    James McLeahy SA 190 cms
    Matt Rosa Country 189 cms
    Jackson Barling Metro 189 cms
    Ryan Herring Country 192 cms
    Luke McGuane Qld 192cms
    Pat Garner Qld 193 cms
are all possibilites who can play a key position and have size.

Great post any idea how Delta's brother played? He was listed to play for the Rams?

Trent took a nice mark early in the game. He's 77kg so he's light-might need a little more time. He's shown form and I only saw him on one day.

He is also the son of Gary Jack, the Australian Rugby League champion fullback.

Which is good news because it suggest Aussie Rules is making headway in NSW.

Also you have to assume that he has the genetics to develop strength and muscle at a later date. If I recall Gary Jack he would have been built like Hird/Judd wouldn't he?

You have to compensate for the standard physique of Leaguies (as wide as they are tall, no neck et. etc.) so while the troglodites made him look like James Hird in reality he probably more Paul Williams shaped.

Gary Jack in his playing days although playing Fullback was more bodied like a traditional Halfback in League terms. Gary was a very skilfull, fast and tough player

                    thanks for the info dick...

                    furthermore:

                    would shaw be AFL ready?

how heavy would he be approx?

was his centre tapwork impressive or was he more useful around the ground?

how would you rate his agility?

how would you rate his speed?

how would you rate his leap?

how would you rate his disposal?

how would you rate his marking abilities?

im sure i could come up with 20 questions regarding him, but thatll do now!

How many draftable ruckmen on show, Richard?

We should aim to draft one from the bunch I guess, perhaps the NSW guy Earl Shaw who is 198cm I think.

Earl Shaw is 198 cms 93 kg taps the ball well, can mark and moves fairly well for a big man. Will be drafted.
This will be a good draft for big men. Fabian De Luca (201), Ivan Maric (197) from Metro show promise. De Luca is a certainty to be drafted. The two standouts were John Meesen 200 Country and Cameron Wood from SA 203. Wood taps well, marks strongly and moves well. Will be drafted first round if not top 10.

well that certainly changes my mind about trading all our draft picks away to get a ruckman... shaw is our target as from NOW!

At this stage, is another young, raw ruckman a priority for us though? We have Ball and Doyle, with MJ and Erickson behind them with plenty of development needed. LRT and maybe Goodes can also fill gaps in the ruck as well. Another young ruckman would be surplass to our needs I would think.

I would prefer we focus our drafting on key talls, other than ruckmen. We have drafted quite a few young midfielders recently. We need to draft a tall key forward to develop for the future when Magic and Hall need some assistance, and we obviously need key defenders ready to play from next year, will have to come from trading and not drafting I think.

Possibly we only need our top pick to draft a young promising tall forward, and use the rest of our picks as trade bait.

Disagreed, Sharpie. MJ is no good. LRT plays more like a KPP than a ruck. Ball is about to retire. We basically got Doyle and Erickson left. Another young ruckman with plenty of upside is required. Given the number of them available (5-6 in all), I guess we will need to trade for a lower 2nd round pick (20th-25th pick overall) to get access to one of them. Trading Crouch or Mathews will give us this.
