    Shepherding....

    Doesn't seem to affect our game for some reason, but I notice that our players don't shepherd very much at all compared to other sides.

    perhaps something to do with our running style of game.

    Anyone else notice this?

      We are the worst side in the competition for shepherding. I can understand that it happens less with our running game, but we haven't really played that style a great deal this year. With the close-in type of game we have been playing we really need to shepherd more.

          When we have a 2 on 1 situation around the ball, we seem to have one player go for the ball and the other, rather than shepherd and give the first player time to gather cleanly and size up the options, tends to move to space to provide an option for the handball, meaning the player going to the ball and looking for the handball is under pressure to gather and dispose cleanly.

          It drives me nuts!!!!

          I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

          If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

              I think it has been a problem with the swans for many years now. Some players do it but not many. Bazza loves a good shepherd!!

                  So does ROK but he often does it instead of a tackle (and his elbow lifts a little).

                  It's not an infrequent occurance during a handball based surge through the middle for a player to hand off to another running past and fail to move into the way of his pursuing apponent (sometimes this results in the receiver being run down or is forced to hurry a disposal.

                  So saying it's one of the few "blue colar" skills we need to lift in.
