Yes, that was bloody awful having those things left up. Thiat was the first time I have seen nets used at the SCG (though they have been used in Canberra). And although the nets were taken down the big black posts were left up....not happy Jan!!!
Especially not happy as they were in front of the Swans members reserve...
They take the posts down in Canberra...why not at the SCG...and damn it, why were they there in the first place?

The SCG is just sliding down hill fast.

Buying grogs last night meant I missed most of the first quarter (the 2nd half) because the line was massive. The pour the lite beers from the bottle to the cup and the wine gets opened on a needs basis (as each one runs out) aaaaaahhhhh!!!

The place is a shambles when in comes to catering and seating! It's the least spectator friendly ground on the continent. York Park would be a better option.

My opinion of Homebush is getting brighter with each new SCG game.

Yep, you have got it. Having been to every ground in the league maybe only Geelong and Canberra have worse facilities as regards food/drinks. Even at Manuka the seating arrangements for the Cheer Squad are far better than the disgraceful arrangement we have in Bay 22.

After initial deliberation, we decided to bring the floggers out last night. Little did I know that Bay 21 is actually up higher than Bay 22. To try and use the floggers is nigh on impossible from my bay as the fence conservatively-speaking would be at shoulder height. I actually actually tripped over when taking them down the front. A kid down there wouldn't be able to see over the fence at all.

That ground needs millions of $$$$ spent redeveloping it. It is purely an simply not up to standard as an AFL venue any longer (at least on the Hill and in the Cheer Squad area.). And why are we the only ground that will not accept pass-outs. Why are sporting supporters in Sydney not given the respect of doing what people in other states take for granted?! Security have improved their act 1 million-fold and now are mainly friendly to us. But otherwise the plce looks old tired and in back need of a refurbishment.

It is up to the SCG Trust. Either they do the place up properly and give it a capacity of 50000 by knocking down the Walters Stands and Hill and creating a Gabbalike two tiered stand all the way from the O'Reilly to the edge of the Ladies Stand or events like big Swans games and one-day cricket will end up going out to Homebush for good.

The SCG is a ground that holds great memories for many Swans supporters. Just do something and fix the place up, as they have already done in the Brewongle/Churchill and O'Reilly concourses.

They have them at Subi too. They were taken away before the Eagles match, no problems.

But what would you expect from the SCG Trust? One game against the Eagles we had to get rid of Swans supporters out of the bay that was set aside for the Eagles Cheer Squad because security forgot to cordon it off.

as a launceston boy i have to say york park has been turned around from the biggest dump of a ground to a nice little venue may only hold 20,000 but has awesome facilities nice and new and cheap food!

The service last night was @@@@. I basically missed most of the only decent quarter (2nd) waiting for beer. Come tomorrow I am billing the SCG trust for my lost time. And whoose hreat idea was the black poles!

Those black poles were a disgrace, they were thicker than the goalposts and the centre one was right in my line of vision up the ground. I for one will be contacting the club today with my complaint and urge all the other Noble Stand dwellers to do same.
The beer queues were a joke, while the club E Mailed members to advise that the Noble stand was full, did any-one bother to let the caterers know?

Yep, disgraceful! How is it that the SCG can't afford better beer pouring mechanisms and a manager to keep those bar staff pumping the stuff out. They walk off and disappear, leaving long queues unattended...I just wanted to scream and I wasn't even that thirsty.

The Tesltra Dome is luxury and highlights that our old SCG is the least spectator friendly ground in the AFL. Where is the value when at the Dome 50,000 spectators have a great view and amenities, whereas the SCG has good viewing and amenities for maybe 5,000?

Pass outs are given to those sitting in the Swans members reserve - Ladies and Noble stands. Not sure why this wouldn't occur across the ground then??

Telstra on the other hand don't allow pass outs to people in the swans members reserves.

Got tickets in the Churchill dining room for the game on Sat (in the mid. level section behind the point post at the Fox Studios end), as opposed to our usual posting in the Members Reserve.

What a different experience this was compared to any other game I've been to at the SCG.

Firstly, they have padded seats.......... I'm not joking the flip up seats have a nice soft padded fill.

Secondly, dedicated bar for a total of about 200 people, needless to say no queues, nice variety of drinks, etc. etc.

Thirdly the crowd, lotsa young "types" and a smattering of celebs, whose focus was not necessarily on the game for too long, granted the game itself was not one that may have held one's attention for the full 4 q's but why are you here people??? Needless to say I was getting more than a few sideways looks for being the most vocal person in the whole damn area.

In the context of this thread it struck me that, I have to say like a lot of things in this country, the Swans are set up to provide an "experience" for the corporate have's. The rank and file member, cheer squad....... well, your lucky we even let you in right!!!!!

They look crap on the tv too, so I think they will go (since tv is obviously more important than live spectators to the AFL!)

The SCG has a great atmosphere, but as a Melbourne based supporter you now notice the difference in the facilities and how well the grounds cope with larger crowds down here in Melbourne (not taking into account Optus Oval) and the GABBA etc.

As for the corporate facilities, I have no problems with the club doing this as it is an area where you get the best return and this money goes along way to making our club viable and ensure it remains.

It sounds like SCG Trust are going to have to think long and hard about completing some ground refurbishments over the coming years. If they are to knock down the Hill & the O'Rielly stand etc and increase the capacity to 50,000 with better facilties, it will be interesting to see how we go playing 12 games out at Stade De Oz while they rebuilt over a couple of years.

Well from where we sit - the black poles looked like they were bolted in and there to stay.

Perhaps its a risk management precaution.

Damned annoying though.

The poles are there pretty much full time during the week for the obvious reason during training sessions, but I would guess they have been removing them prior to match day.
I've never seen anything at the Randwick end, therefore can't see much point in having them at just one end for the warmups

I've said it before. The entire SCG should be demolished and built from scratch (not likely though !). Besides the more intimate atmosphere for smaller crowds and perceived better seats in relation to proximity to play, TS @@@@s al over it. I'm finding the atmosphere much better there too since they built the roofs on either end.
